What Alpha Option?

I have a pretty well setup 2015 M8000 153" with a 3" track but, I have been thinking I would very much thought I would like to have an Alpha all season. The rebates end this Thursday I am told. So, the way I see it, I have four options.

1. The Cheapest - pick up a 600 Alpha 154" for $9,500 and add have the exhaust modded and a few others to be in the 130 hp range. If the Alpha track really hooks up the way I hear and requires very little throttle to do things that used to require one to pin and wiggle.

2. The most likely - Buy a 800 154" Alpha for $11,500 and add a lightweight can and some other goodies. The 800's do have a lot better shocks.

3. Buy a 800 Alpha 165" for $11,700 and do the same.

4. Wait for the 2020 pricing to be announced.

Thoughts?

are u sure there are still rebates? I started a thread about 5 weeks ago..I had to fight for my rebate on the 165 A1. they pulled it wo notice the day before I dropped off my check. they told the dealer I the rebate was a mistake..who knows?

maybe the dealer has some leftover and trying to unload ASAP? I paid $12500 for my 19 alpha 1 after rebate before other stuff.

can't answer whether or not u should go with the mono, as I'm new and dont know better yet, but I love it and it's way easier to ride than my nytro haha

I am in the same position as you, selling my 16 Sat now what? The rebates end on the 28th. It is very tempting to snap up a 19, but i have decided to wait until the 20 pricing is released. I will be keeping this one for a while and want the longest warranty available. I know there is a cost but i am willing to go that route if it is reasonable. AC sent the email today and talked about the pricing program to come. Wait and see for now. Good luck on your choice.

I would snap one up. Country Cat in Minnesota has 154 going for 10,999 and 165 going for 11,399. Only get a one year warranty though. I just picked up a 154 from them and now thinking a 165 would also be nice to have. Good luck, you wont regret a Alpha!

Option #3 seems to be your best bet IMO. Country Cat seems to have the best prices however you will most likely spend more than the $300 in savings on shipping the sled to Eastern Washington.

You will probably save $3000 over a 2020 and without any significant changes that much money could go a long way towards accessories or repairs in the unlikely event they are needed.

Depends how important the money is. Personally I’d wait for the pricing on the 20’ sleds to be released. I think the new motor will be worth the extra money. My guess is it’ll be in the 8hp more range than the current ctec 800. Plus you’ll be able to get a lot more warranty on a snow check than the one year you’ll get on a hold over 19’. So more power and more warranty on a 2020 sled for $2000ish more, seems like a no brainer to me.

My wife suggested I go with option 5.

Which as she explains it is, quit my whining and keep and continue to ride my current 2015 sled. :(

I appreciate all of your great opinions!

I guess like many of you, I will more than likely be waiting to see what we get for rebates on the 1st of March and pricing on the 5th.

Based on what Textron did with eliminating ATV and UTVs rebates last fall, I'm concerned that the rebates may go away completely on 1 March.

If that's the case, my wife may very well get her wish.

I'm in a similar situation. I am looking at some dealer demo sleds, or thinking of a '20. I have opted to try and ignore everything for the next few days and see what rebate options come out on the 1st. Then see if I can hold out a few more days until the '20 pricing is announced.
Also for what its worth, a friends uncle's cousin sister in law's best friends neighbor's brother's imaginary friend says that there might be a new sled announced along with the pricing on the 5th. :face-icon-small-hap

With the information we have at this point I don't see a reason to hold out for a 2020 unless you don't like purple, or really want electric start. (Subject to change Mar 5)

A month ago BRP had rebates ending, then the rebate doubled the next day. These days it's tough to know what's going to happen. Best advice I've heard is if you find something you like buy it, ride it, and be happy.

the new h.o. engine improvements are probably worth the few days wait...there are likely a couple of other updates that will add value to the sled also....and the resale will be better, if you resell within two years, probably go with the '20...:face-icon-small-coo

Yes, the deals on new Skidoos are getting crazy. There were several Summit SP 850s with SHOT for $9,998.00. They sold quickly.

I got a call from a dealer today who has a brand new left over yellow and black 2018 Skidoo Summit 850 XP with SHOT and a 154 x 3" for $10,000 out the door.

That's at least $1,500 than the best deal I can find on an Alpha One 154. The Skidoo is a 2018 but, that's only $400 more than an Alpha One 600.

Pretty soon they will be giving them away with gift wrapping, a four year warranty and a pet alpaca. :face-icon-small-ton

Just picked up (today) a 2019 Ski DOO 165", 3'" track, Black with SHOT for $10800 with 3 year warranty. Couldn't pass it up. First non-cat in 10 years for me. I'll ride it for the rest of the season. If I can't get used to it, I'll check an Alpha.

galljr13, congrats on a great sled. Please let us know your thoughts.

I rode a 165 Gen 4 for about a city block a couple years ago when the Gen 4's first came out and all I remember is how long and tippy it felt compared to my Proclimb. That was on a packed area and I just wanted to get it back the owner before I tipped it over.

800 Alpha Ones are now below $11,000. I have seen a few 154 Alphas for $10,500-$10,999. A 2020 certainly will be over $14,000+.

So, it seems the discussion goes full circle again. The question is:

Do you have to have the latest and greatest or are you looking for a bargain?

Depending on the 2020 pricing, although not nearly as cool, I may just wait for a 2019 Alpha buyer to upgrade to a 2020? However, getting a used 2019 for less than what they are selling them new for right now might be really tough.

I think the used market price is going to depend on the "new offer you can't miss" supposedly being rolled out today by cat. If the snow check pricing really is that good, then the used market and holdover prices will drop. Time will tell. Still no update on cats website.
Can anyone tell me last years snowcheck price on a 165 Alpha? Just to compare with the can't miss offer...

They release the pricing on the 5th which is next Tuesday.

Local dealer told me they were snow checking the 165s for 15,900 plus freight and all the other bs.

In canada, so US may be different.

Yep, I was mistaken. Today they are supposed to announce the rebates for the '19 model year sleds. The 5th is for the pricing of '20 sleds.
