We were out playing around today with a 2010 D8 121 and a 2008 D7 136 and 2 out of 3 times the D7 would beat the D8. Also the D8 rider weighed at least 25lbs less than the guy on the D7. Is this what other people are seeing for performance from the D8 or what. To me it seems that the D8 is lacking just a bit.

Maybe the 136" track was getting better traction? or your 800 just sucks. I have been on both in the mountains and there is no comparison. 700 is a nice sled but it's not as good as an 800 in deep snow!!!

Introducing the new for 2012 Polaris 880 RMK

The 700 is a punched out 600 and it runs good. The 800 is a punched out and stroked 600 and we all know how well that worked. As both have about 140 HP I would go with the 700. Polaris should redesign it's 800 as a big block platform that would tolerate abuse and modifications like turbos or twin pipes. It could give the turbo yamis some competition. If Polaris continues to push the curent 800 as it's top of the line things are going to get ugly for them.

turbo 800s are more reliable than stock 800s. and the 700 has been dynotechreaserch dyno'd at 135 and the 800 was at 145 so not far off being that the 600 is 120-125

so they all are about 10 hp diffferent other than the 600 is tuned right and the 700 and 800 still can be tuned with a map to get the true hp beeing the 700 is suppose to be 140 and the 800 154

So you took a 600, and did a mod motor on it and are complaining because the 800 is losing.

I've seen some 660 mods destroy much larger motors.

The D7 is a stock engine I built from parts and just has bmp head and a pipe mod and the D8 is bone stock. But really what is the D7 pushing for power with the mods maybe 140hp. My buddy that owns the D8 is just dissapointed that the big 800 just isn't really what it should be. He bought a D8 and a 600 shift both 2010 models and in 1000ft or so the D8 is only about 2 sleds ahead of the shift and really not pulling on it either. We were really just wondering if others are seeing similar performance or is this D8 just a pooch?

Man im not trying to split hairs here but you started by comparing two sleds then come back and say that the d7 has some work done and the d8 is stock. Did the d7 have clutch work as well? My iqr600ho prob has 130hp with the work that i have done to it and it will demolish any stock 800 in a thousand feet. Comparing any stock sled to any sled with the right mods is comparing apples to oranges IMO

How many miles does the D8 have on it? On my 2010 assault the first 100 miles were pretty disappointing, but its getting way better and stronger every time I ride it.

when i fist got my 7 i met a guy with an 8 i couldnt get an 8 at my dealer so i settled for the 7 so anyway we swaped my 7 was faster than his 8 so made me feel a little better about getting the 7 and my sled wasnt broke in yet, few weeks later was ride with one of my rideing buddys who brought one of his buddys who has an 8 got up to some hills. i thought maybe it was just that guys sled was a turd until i hopped on this guys sled come back down i told him i just wasnt impressed with the 800s he actually got mad at me i told him iam not jokeing told him to take my sled for a run he got back just shook his head said he was takeing his sled back to the dealer but i havnt seen him since.

not saying the all 8s are turds just i havnt seen one in my area that works good but now iam not on a even playing feild i got a 174 slp race twins and it rips

Come on guys keep it civil. ;) Anyone who has been on this forum for awhile knows that the D8 performance is all over the board. How many on here can't even get their 8's to pull the proper RPM? Some run good some don't. For all we know his 8 was running with scored pistons. If you have never ridden a 7 I highly recommend that you do. Clutched right it can have you rethinking your choice on an 8. I can easily see a 7 out performing some of the 8's. They are a strong running motor and usually more reliable than the 8.

x2. My bro-in-law (D7) beats me (D8) in a drag race 50% of the time, but he can't go up as high as me on the mountain. I weigh about 15lbs more too!

The D7 is the over achiever and the D8 is an under achiever.
The D7s are more consitently putting out the 140hp they are suppose to and the D8 rarely puts out the 154hp they were suppose to..... more often only the dynoed 145hp.
The D7 is very reliable and the D8 is ????
