Dangerously cold conditions will grip the region tonight as arctic air continues to spill south. We're already seeing wind chill values colder than 30 below zero near the Montana border, and this bitter cold will continue to spread south through the evening. Stay inside if you can tonight and Thursday morning. If you must go out, dress in layers and have a winter emergency kit in your vehicle if you must travel! Don't forget about your pets either!

Doug Chabot of the GNFAC finds a similar snow structure that is found in most of our forecast area: a slab of cohesive snow perched atop weak, sugary facets. We anticipate avalanches with more snow. This snowpit was at 9,000' on a SE facing slope.
