Gear up Alpha

Son has 2019 ALpha 165- and when we had his 2018 mountain cat we geared it up as it always seem to low for the mountains-and maybe gain some track speed- Anyone play with ratios yet.??
BTW the sled is an animal- way impressive in stock form.

HMMM Thought it might benefit from it and get away from some of the trenching.. I guess 2.5 ratio is acceptable but hope there would be a bit more to be had.. Are the bottom gears still crap ones that generally were eaten by the chain? or did they go to a true gear finally.. I remember the 15 M 8's had that bottom gear issue.

Have not tore the chain case apart yet- was going to see here what was advisable...

The bottom gear is aluminum. BDX makes a lightweight steel 50 tooth to replace it. They did not offer it when I first changed out mine so I have a team 50 tooth steel gear in mine.

The drivers are larger on the Alpha - 3.5 vs 3.0. So the 19/50 is not as ‘low’ on the Alpha compared to the others.

Heard of more guys going the other way. 52T King Cat bottom gear.

7 tooth x 3 pitch = 21" circumference.

Same size for gearing calcs

About .5" larger diameter than the 8 tooth 3"

Alpha gearing is ~7% higher than the twin rail mtn cat.

Did you ever leave a dirtbike in 1st gear all day?
Neither have I, but that's how I imagine this is going to feel.

Not necessary.
Thousands of sleds with thousands of miles over the last 6+ yrs and zero failures of the aluminum sprocket.....[emoji3061]

The aluminum sprocket has a lot of wear initially however, once the sprocket conforms to the shape of the chain..... they maintain that shape for a very long time.

The small aluminum shavings in the oil will not harm the chain, bearings, or sprockets, all those materials are much harder...[emoji4]

and now we have a drain plug super easy to change the oil.
