Just talked to the guys at Hardy Camp they are reporting 6 inches overnight. More to come is predicted. Trail conditions in most areas are the best I have seen in many years. Off trail is getting good (not epic yet). Now starting to see stuck mountain sleds.

Awesome, we will see you wednesday

Duane. We are going to long track a 120 and have already added more hp. Want to bring my son out to play in some meadows. There is no title on this little unit so do we need a license or not?

Technically by law they meet the definition of a snowmobile and are required to be licensed, Usually when we see them buzzing around the parking lot or lodges we do not bother with them. But if they are out riding with the "big boys" we advise them to license the 120. I know it is possible to title and license the 120's and Sno-Scoots because I have seen several with license on them.

Here are a few pictures from the hills on the 4th and 5th of January. Only had phone with for a camera so it doesn't quite do it justice. The snow was awesome though.

Found Great Snow

We were down this past weekend (10th,11th,12th) and found a lot of good riding, deep in the trees and the trails were all good from Trailshead to Spearfish Canyon Lodge, Cement Ridge and SouthWest of Rec. Springs. Might be coming back this weekend.:face-icon-small-ton

Just got back from a club night ride. We rode from the Ditch Creek lot on the furthest South end of the system to Deerfield and back. Had snow over the hood the whole way there(that was on the road). They got a good foot over the 2 days on top of the 6-10 inches last Thursday night. I have not heard what they got up ay Hardy but I will be going up tomorrow. It has been a long time since I seen this much snow way to the South. Took trail 2 South of Deerfield (Mountain Meadow) and all the thin spots are no longer thin.

Hardy Camp, Trailshead and Buckhorn got a good foot of snow over the past couple of days. Lots of drifting. Should be some good snow loaded slopes. Less new snow to the North Approx. 6 inches around Lead. North has a better base and South has lots more powder. Conditions really good. This would be a weekend not to miss. Also the vintage ride is this Saturday at Trailshead. I have a couple of old iron to clean up by then.

Thanks for the report Duane. We'll be out this weekend for the SF club ride. Really looking forward to the riding (tho not looking forward to fighting the wind on the drive out tomorrow).

Have not been done to hills before. Where does a guy go? Head up spearfish canyon like heading for deadwood? Thanks guys

I would recommend staying in Deadwood, they have a shuttle service that stops at all the hotels to take you to the restaurants and casinos. Most ride out of trailshead which is 30 miles from deadwood. Also rec springs is 15 miles or so from deadwood and offers an alternative. I would not recommend starting at rec springs with intent on riding to trails head and returning to rec springs at the end of the day.

Trailshead is a lodge, the main hub of the trail system basically, and yes on the trailer.

We stay at rec springs and often ride back and forth from trails head, can get rough depends on traffic, or we haul sleds to spearfish canyon lodge and park and unload and ride down to trailshead, lots of good off trail and such, sounds like snow is deep this year, cant wait to get out there

need some advice

Can a guy stay at Black Hills Inn near deadwood and ride from there without trailering? Never been to the hills before and have reservations at Black Hills Inn for Feb. 8th-12th. Would prefer not to trailer if at all possible. Riding only groomed trails to speak of.

Hi timhoward, for that size trailer, you are gonna want to get to Trailshead early. And I mean early on the weekends. We stayed at Rec. Springs last weekend and the trails were good to ride back and forth on early and late. Its up to you, but Trailshead fills up fast on the weekends, good luck!!!!

I wouldn't plan on parking that trailer in deadwood to many places. Deadwood and lead are pretty tight all over for parking. I usually stay in lead and its hard to find a good spot for mine in lead. most of the time just leave it up at trails head.

If you are referring to Black Hills Inn and Suites yes you can ride from your hotel especially if you are planning on mostly trail riding. The only disadvantage is if we get a warm spell the snow in and around Deadwood usually goes first.
