STA BIL in an ETEC?

Calling it a season and going to summarize my sled. picked up a 15 SP and was wondering if Stabil is ok. last sled was an 06 and I used it all the time. new sled is at 42% break in. Planning on use the factory summarization to the motor, just curious on people's thoughts. I'm not one to start my sled throughout the summer. Thanks in advance, Brian.

stabile has two formulations...one for ethonol fuel, one for non-ethonol..be sure to get the right one.

Stabil in Etec

Use Seafoam

You can put it in your oil and fuel run the summerization program. Works excellent, especially on ethanol blends.

This stuff comes from the marine industry and has a history of performing in very rigorous environments. I have used it for 4 years with excellent results and no issues.

Stabil

Running the motor with Stabil in the gas delivers the active ingredient to the whole fuel system so it does not gum up. Even if you are to drain the tank after treatment, I believe running the motor with Stabil in the fuel is the proper way to insure the fuel injection system (or carb) stays clean until start-up next season.

i do this same process to all of my motorized "offseason" things....sled, mower, leaf blower, generator, etc.....

1. siphon out/drain most of the gas
2. dump a little stabil in the tank
3. run the engine for a long enough time to get treated gas into the fuel system (lines, filter, carbs, etc)
4. (if there is a fuel shut off) turn fuel off and let engine run until it quits
5. let the critter hibernate
6. when the time comes, fill with fresh gas and away you go

If it's stored in the garage. No need for stabil, or the motor fog option. Just get the old gas out.

neither the fuel in a tank, nor the etec under the hood know if it is sitting in your garage, the sahara desert, or the north pole. gas will eventually go bad. gas will eventually gum things up if it sits for a long time.

the engine fogging.......thats not a new concept by any means. people have been doing that to 2 stroke engines for years. the option is there with the push of a few buttons. youd be dumb not to use it.

IMHO I could not disagree more. Having summerized and winterized vehicles for nearly 50 years I can tell you the results are not encouraging for zero prep - regardless of where they are stored. Can you get lucky? Yes. Can you get a clogged up pilot jet, even if you use Stabil with ethanol fuel? Yes, but not as probable. Does fogging and Stabil work? Absolutely!

"You pays your money and takes your chances" they say. You want me to bet on an engine lasting longer, running better, costing me less to operate and being more reliable? Proper off season storage and maintenance is critical.

The risk of having one of these snowmobile engines stop running when I am in deep - six ridgelines over - is just too expensive in too many ways! If the lawn mower quits, I understand its no big deal.

unless your garage is humidity controlled and a constant temperature.....that means nothing as far as engine fogging goes

i dont know the effects of temperature in respect to the ageing of gasoline, so i have no smartass comment for that topic.

I always ran Seafoam and Stabil in my tanks for the last two or three rides of the year and then ran the tanks almost empty and refilled next fall. I did this on Yamaha 4 stroke, E-tec and now Polaris and it has always worked great for me. It is pretty cheap insurance IMO. Have a good summer everyone!!

Put the Sta-Bil in your gas tank then run the summarization program afterwards, I did it to both our sleds and it was super easy.
