Subject: 2013 600/800 PRO-RMK Sprocket Fastener Replacement
Purpose:
The Polaris Technical Service and Snowmobile Engineering teams have received field reports of loose upper sprocket
fasteners on a limited number of MY13 600 and 800 PRO-RMK snowmobiles. Polaris has determined a loose upper
sprocket fastener can cause the jackshaft to move within the backer plate’s bearing. Because of the material differences
between the jackshaft and bearing inner race, wear can result between the components resulting in jackshaft failure.
To prevent both the upper and lower sprocket fasteners from loosening, the fastener torque specification is increasing
from 30 ft-lbs (40 Nm) to 45 ft-lbs (61 Nm) on both fasteners. Because the fasteners have a pre-applied locking agent,
the existing fasteners must be replaced with new parts. To facilitate this change, please follow the repair and inspection
procedures outlined within this Service Bulletin.
Polaris has determined that affected units with less than 500 miles (800 km) need only the upper and lower sprocket
fasteners replaced. Units with more than 500 miles (800 km) must have the jackshaft inspected because it is possible for
wear to occur at the jackshaft bearing mating surface if the upper sprocket fastener has loosened.

Parts Return or Disposal Information:
All jackshaft assemblies replaced as directed by this Service Bulletin must be returned to Polaris for inspection.
Jackshaft assemblies found to be not damaged and within specifications, will be charged-back to your
dealership.
For all other parts referenced within this Service Bulletin, follow the standard parts return or disposal information
outlined below.
Dealers & Distributors: Under no circumstances shall the part removed in this repair be re-used, sold, or re-purposed
for another application. It is your dealership / distributorship’s responsibility to make sure every part replaced is taken out
of circulation and disposed of properly.
For North American Dealers: Once the warranty claim for each unit has processed, please review the “Check Returned
Parts List” on your dealer website to determine whether or not Polaris has asked for the part(s) to be returned. If the
part(s) were not identified as needing to be returned to Polaris, please dispose of the part(s) properly.

Dear FIRST NAME.
Thank you for purchasing a 2013 Polaris PRO RMK snowmobile. Our number one priority at Polaris is customer
satisfaction, and we know this is driven by product quality. Recently we identified a quality concern that affects 2013 PRO
RMK snowmobiles, including your machine. Please take a moment to review this letter and make arrangements with your
Polaris dealer to have it resolved as soon as possible.
On February 28, 2013, Technical Service Bulletin S-13-01 was released because it is possible your vehicle’s upper drive
sprocket fastener may loosen. A loose upper sprocket fastener may cause damage to the jackshaft or other QuickDriveTM
components. To resolve this issue, Polaris has provided your selling dealer with a service procedure and new sprocket
fasteners at no cost to you. Your Polaris dealer will install new sprocket fasteners using a new torque specification, and
perform a jackshaft inspection if required.
While the Service Bulletin will take less than 30 minutes to perform, dealer service schedules vary so please contact your
selling dealer at your earliest convenience to schedule a service appointment.
While your Polaris dealer is in the best position to answer your questions, if you have any questions your dealer cannot
address, you may call our Customer Service Department at: 1-888-704-5290.
We take quality very seriously, and want you to be confident we have taken appropriate measures to prevent this from
reoccurring. Thank you for being part of the Polaris family and allowing us to provide you with the ultimate deep snow
riding experience.
Sincerely,
Polaris Snowmobile Division

Thanks for posting.

My upper bolt loosened just enough to spin the washer. I noticed it at 700 miles. No play in the jackshaft as of yet though.

Had my Pro in to replace a QD belt and they just got the bulletin. I got new bolts and they checked the jack shaft. That's not much torque on the bolts! I was so nervous I carried a 11/16 socket with me for a few rides to make sure it didn't get too loose. I'm sure many already know this, but it's a must to have the QD belt tools for install. It's tough w/o them. They are simple and lightweight.

I took my sled in last week for this recall and just called them today to find out the progress on it. They're waiting on parts...I'm getting a new jackshaft and possibly something else, the service manager wasn't in so they didn't know for sure. Looks like my quick drive belt I blew last trip is going to be warrantied after all.
