How many miles can I expect to get on my 800 Etec before I rebuild it

New to the 800 Etec motor and was wondering how many "MOUNTAIN" miles I can expect to get on my XM before I need to start tearing into the motor? Motor is stock with no mods.

I have a 13 XM now and looking at buying another for the girlfriend, but the sleds I am interested in already have over 1500 miles on them and after spending the money to buy another sled for the season I am not interested in the expense of rebuilding it in the spring. I have been told that the 800 Etec will run between 4000 to 5000 without issues but that seems had to believe unless it I low RPM trail miles.

In the old Ptec we would freshen the top end at 2500, what has been your experience with the Etec.

One of Rasmussen's instructors was riding one with over 5000 miles that had no motor work done. I'm not a snowmobile engine expert but I would think trail miles are worse than "mountain" miles. Keeping a 2 stroke at the same RPM for extended periods of time is not good for an engine.

……..
Any isoflex bottom end should be re done at 2500.
Any two stroke rode hard should get a top end around 2k.
I would trust a trued crank a little farther.

i have a friend that got over 6000 miles last winter with no problems at all on a 14 XM stock sled.
none of these miles were easy miles. He rides hard all day every day and has been featured in some sled vids. He also got over 2500 miles on his turbo 14 xm.

So your friend rode 8500 miles last year? I've never seen a ski doo motor last more than 1500 miles riding here in the west and I've been paying attention ever since the prototype came out in 2000. The piston designs were horrible, reed boots were junk which blew up lots of engines, the base gaskets constantly leaked, do we really need to talk about the crankshafts??? Hopefully the new one is better, the motor definitely is a lot smoother running than the previous non DI motors.

The Rasmussen rider was probably Josh Roth. He said the rings went with 5500 miles +or-. I picked up a 13 xm with 6400 miles on it and ran perfect with good compression on both cylinders. I still pulled motor down to freshen and trued up crank. It still looked pretty good inside considering the miles. Now just hope it will go that long again before it needs another freshen. :face-icon-small-hap Some will obviously go further than others but I would say on average most should make it at least 4000 miles

^^^^^ not as good I am afraid. I blew my 2012 PRO RMK 800 to smithereens with 1250 miles on it. I have about 4 other friends that bought PROs that year and all have blown up.

I have since put 1300-1400 miles on a 13 Summit X 800, and 1675 miles on a 14 Summit X with a 872. So in my mind I feel the Doo is way more reliable.

I'm not brand loyal I have both a pro and ordered a new t3 EVERY and I mean every pro in our group (6) I have towed out of the mountains before 1500 miles due to and engine issue. One friends I just tore down and it was miles away from blowing.

'14 xm. Stock.
6500km @ 5000-8000ft. Lots of WFO.
Ethanol free premium fuel and xps oil.
Stator x2, fuel pump, recoil and grip heaters under warranty. Spark plugs done myself.(worn out)
No bown belts, currently on second belt.
Clutches cleaned at least every 500km, tear down of plastics and primary for a thorough cleaning and inspection every 1000km or so.
Other maintenance as per manual using recommended fluids/parts.

Engine starts and performs as it did new. I have no numbers to indicate the condition of the engine, but in a drag race against the identical sled with 1000km, we consistently tie.

I have no intention of doing any engine work until it blows and will then let the dealer repair it under warranty. YMMV
