My last sled was a 2004 RMK 700 144. I loved this sled! Sold the sled in 2007 and we are just getting back into riding. We mostly ride off trail in the mccall Idaho area. I am comfortable riding with the guys. I am wanting to spend about $4,000 . I have considered buying another 04 700 rmk. But I'm wondering if I should be considering a longer track than 144? What other Polaris sled should I consider? Probably nothing newer than an 2007 simply because of cost. Are there sled we should stay away from? Size wise I am 5 10" 135lbs. Thanks!

Since you want a Polaris and want to spend about $4k, I would go with the IQ 600 RMK from 2006 to 2010. You should be able to get a 2006, 2007 and maybe 2008 for that money. That 600 has about 120 hp which is similar to the 700 you rode. The chassis is much better IMO. The 144" might be a little more nimble an easier for you to turn but it won't float near a well as the 155". I would get the 155", I don't think you sacrifice that much in "flickability". I found a 2010 600 RMK 155" that I wanted to buy my wife and it was $5,000. I didn't get it in time and it has since sold. But they are out there.

I picked up an 09 600 for $4200 at the end of the season last year.

Go ride one of the RAW chassis (07-10) You won't want to go back to your 04.

I had an 06 600 that I put a 156 under and loved to play with the bigger sleds sidehilling and boondocking in the trees. It wouldn't climb straight up like an 800 but I could sidehill that sucker uphill for what seemed like an eternity. On a big open hill I had several of the 8s pissed because I could sidehill up past their point and shoot marks.
