getting a 174 T-3 and thing of a 880 kit. i ride mountains and low elevation.. whos kit do you reccomend SHR , Kelseys or Trygstadd,, pros and cons
thanks
Jugs, I have been watching and listening for sometime and it sounds like Trygstadd has it all dialed in and working with no history of issues which I know is not the case for Kelsey's Kit which has had many published failures of which the word on the street is that he always claims it was bad fuel. As for the SHR I have only heard the power was not as good as Trygstadd but the jury is still out on the reliability and it doesn't sound bad to date. Honestly I would call the network of dealers for more feedback.
I am currently having a big bore built for my sled, 2014 RS and I went with SHR. I called the three listed above and hands down he has the best customer service. Because of what I want it is not your standerd job, he worked with the guys building my custom pipes and made sure his specs worked with theirs. He was honest on estimated horsepower and did not try to sell me something I did not want, you can't go wrong with SHR.
So I had this big long rant typed and deleted it. I'm a SHR cheerleader and would go 880. I've visited w/ Kelsey when modding my old Rev. Don't think his and my personalities would work. The only thing I don't really like as far as Trygstad are the "facts" on his site. He has the right to his opinion and why he chose to build the way he wants, but it really seems to try and discredit all the other builders. There is enough other different big bores out there to make the "facts" bunk. His sight and right, so I don't get to worried about it. I'd ride a 872, just wouldn't have one built for myself. First impressions I guess.
If I was to pick simply by failure rate, the 872 etecs around here are at 100%. Bore size I suspect (insert sarcasm). No RKT or SHR etecs to compare w/ but never heard of a RKT or SHR etec going down. We all ride the carb version but 872 does not have more power. All very comparable that way. Setup will get you what you want out of any the motors.
Give them all a call, and go w/ who you feel most comfortable w/.
Be nice to see a chart with all 3 side by side...
.... maybe list hp, bore size, pistons (cast or forged), warranty time, price, fuel selection, compression, etc...

It's wishful thinking, I know!
... although I would be MORE inclined to purchase a BB kit IF the builder would stand behind his product for an amount of time. ..
