6.0 Powerstroke Owners: What kind of oil do you run?

Just wondering what kinda motor oil you guys have been running. I ran the Rotella 15w-40 in mine from when I bought it with 27,000 miles till I had about 78,000 miles. Then I switched over to the Rotella 5w-40 synthetic. Shortly after this I had it at the dealer for an egr valve, egr cooler, and oil cooler kit. They had to drain the oil and replaced it with 10w-30 QSD, which I'm guessing is Quaker State Diesel, but correct me if I'm wrong. I'd think they would use Motorcraft oil, but I'm not a diesel mechanic. Anyways I just changed the oil last weekend and went back to the Rotella 5w-40 synthetic. Anybody here run that, reccomend it, not reccomend it. Anybody have any good or bad luck with any other oil? Figure this could help out about any 6.0 owner on here. Thanks for any feedback, guys.

Rotella 5-40 synthetic, Schaffers 15/40 if I could get it locally. Trying Rotella T5 10/30 right now, will see how it goes. Also added Rev-X at this last oil change, don't know if it will make a difference or not.

Rotella 5-40 synthetic. will help your injectors very much with the winter coming up. The Egr system is just a faulty area with these trucks. I wouldn't blame it on the oil unless your going 10k between oil changes. Keep your changes around 5K even with synthetic. JMO

I've been using mobil 1 5w-40 syn from 5,000 miles to now at 90,000 miles changing at 5,000. Only using motorcraft filters both oil and fuel (changing at 15,000) truck has been flawless. SCT tuned from 8,000 put back to stock for winter time tuned in summer.

MN. 10 minutes from Canada!
I use amsoil 15w-40 in the warm months and Amsoil 5w-30 in the cold months. I have 64,000 miles on the truck with no issues and starting running Amsoil with about 10,000 miles on the truck. I was running Rotella before. I change my oil every fall and spring. About 7000 miles.

oil?

Shaffers 5w 40 syn w/rev x. The rev x is a miracle additive! I highly recomend it, it will keep ya from changing injectors. Drove it off the car lot in 04, with 300 miles on it! It now has 115000 on it! I dropped a injector last year shortly after a oil change. I changed it out myself, and it ran great until the next oil change. And it dropped another injector! Added two bottles of rev x and it brought the injector back. runs way smoother too! heui's love rev x i guess!

How much is the rev x additive and where do you guys buy it? Also when do you guys change to the lighter oil? I'm almost due for an oil change, is it to soon to put 10-30 in?

Oil

I was using Amsoil HDD 5W-30 year around and it worked great, but the cost was not practical when oil changes cannot be extended on these engines, no matter what type of oil you run. This is because of the shearing of the oil, which takes place in the high pressure oil pump, for the injection system. This oil pump will destroy the viscosity of any oil, so change at the recommended interval. Currently, I'm using Shell T6 5W-40, year around and as a side note, this oil gives the same protection in the summer as Rotella T 15W-40.

763-300-5036, heres a number for rev x orders. It may not seem your getting alot for the price, but this stuff is the best thing on the market for the HEUI system!

If you guys ever have the egr cooler and oil cooler replaced like he stated above, I strongly recommend bulletproof diesels coolers, check them out, it eliminates many 6.0L problems. There are some nice pics explanations etc.. I have had very good luck with there products.

I have heard good things from Bulletproofs coolers, but way overpriced for what you can get a full delete with up-pipe for! FCDP egr delete is a sweet setup! Well worth the money.

Not a HEUI motor shouldnt be neccesary in the 7.3. Just run a good synthetic oil and you should be fine!

Thanks doodah, I owned a 6.0 a few years back and didnt have any problems with it. This is my 2nd 7.3 and it has a banks kit and runs really strong.
