I want to get my son into a newer more nimble sled for the mountains. Whats everyones take on an xp chassis vs a rev chassis ?

I would look at a 600 before an 800 for a 14 year old, but that's just me. If you're dead set on an 800, look at the Rev platform for sure. The XP is hard to handle without some pretty major modifications to the suspension and front end. I have both the XP and the Rev chassis BTW for comparison.

Yep, what he said I put my kid on a rev 600 summit at 14. Best sled I probably ever owned. He took to it well, now at 20 he embarrasses me with his riding skill on a regular basis

My 9 and 11 year olds share a 06 Rev 800 and a 08 XP 800. They both do better on the XP ! 11 year old is carvin donuts already. Too bad I don't have a money tree. They would both be on XM 800 146's !

I started riding 800s at 16. If they have ridden much maybe an 800 so you wont have to get a sled sooner. Plus its a good back up for yourself.

He was riding a phazer at 9 and been riding a 1m 900 and my xm. He is fine with power but after riding my xm last year he doesn't like the 900 so much any more.If they are both awkward I may look for an m8.

I personally think that the xp would feel more like your xm then a M chassis. I haven't spent a whole lot of time on M chassis sleds but I feel it feels more like my hold ZX chassis and Polaris Vertical Escape.

Buy an xp, narrow front end and add tmotion and they will love it. Would be tough to go back to the 1m after being on the xm, must feel like your being punished;)

The Skidoo 800 engine is mellow, it is a trait that most people don't appreciate. I can put my wife on one of mine and she doesn't get intimidated. Good thing.
Common sense says don't spoil your kid, get whatever is cheap.
Dad says get them something kickass. :)
My 4.5 year old daughter had a Z120 when she was two days old. Literally. Bought it broken, fixed it, and sold it before she even knew she had it. She got a nice Cat 120 on her 2nd birthday, didn't look at it twice and has yet to ride it two years later. Her brother (now 3) got one for Xmas last year. He will ride it this year, and is excited about it.
Long story short, daddies buy things for thier kids not only for their kids, but for them also. :):):)
Neither one of my kids have ridden theirs, but I had one hell of a time last winter carving up the field on their rigs!

Chad, my 12 year old son has been riding a 800 xp all of last season we even made a trip to pemberton. He handles it no problem. We are installing a flex edge on it and have installed the "spindle angle changing" A arms on it. We will see if it handles closer to the xm.

As a new rider I started on the Rev chassis and within a year moved up to the XP chassis with limited riding. While the XP does have it's "downfalls" according to most I had a much easier time riding it then the Rev. I am a slight build female just to give you an idea.

Dad....letting him ride the XM was your undoing. You better start looking for an XM or at least an XP upgraded with t-motion and the narrow front end.

+1 on the Rev Summit 600 being a great sled.....wish I still had it for a back up sled or for quests.

If you are into modding things a Rev Summit 800 is a great starting place and they are cheap.
