VES Valve Alert

After market VES bellows may be prematurely disintegrating around the center holes, due to highly repetitive flexing at high temperatures. It may take no more than 6 rides. All bellows eventually crack around the center hole. The after market bellows involved here were the bright orange type. In this case, the bellow coating started bubbling away from and de laminating from the inner thickness of the bellows. This defect is in addition to the previously discovered wear defect of the stops on the center stem becoming dented when the valve is extended, resulting in the valve tips impacting the piston and rings which could lead to all kinds of bad things happening to the engine.

The construction of the defective bellows, can be identified by the fine mesh pattern that is only visible on surface of the bottom face of the orange bellows. The bellows with no embedded fine mesh pattern seem to last a lot longer. Notice when you buy the bellows on Ebay, there is no picture of the bottom face of many of the bellows, leading me to believe that the seller is already aware of this problem.

Since it is more important to have this VES bellows post on top than some hard to find after market cylinder head post, I am bring it back up.
