my friends summit starts off fine then when he starts goin it won't go past 6500rpm in the powder or on the trail

My 06 summit X 800 did the same thing only it was intermitent. It would run fine and then it would just bog out and wouldn't go past 6500 then is would jump back up and rev to 8000 in it's own due time...We figured it out after taking the lead mechanic out of the Ski-doo shop..It was the DPM which is 166 bones. If he has a donor sled switch them out and give that a try.

what and where is the DPM?

the sled bogged on the way up on the trail and in the powder but on the way down it ran fine?
