I had my reeds go at 1450 miles on my 2011 HCR, and of coarse it was the first day on a trip.
Anyone else have or hear of reeds going that soon ?

The V-force reeds in our M1000 were chipping with about that many miles on them. BDX has new take-off complete OEM reed cages for $25 each. They have a bunch of them from building the pro-lites.

As a comparison I measured some 09 M8 pedals and a 11 .
09 was .48mm thick and the 11 was .56mm. Knowing that the
09 never had reed issues like the HO I was surprised that the HO
Reeds were thicker.

I called boyesen and they sell Carbon tech in a mid tension .40mm
and high Tension .50mm for the 800 HO
along with super stock OEM type replacements.

All I know is on a trip you dont want your sled to eat a pedal !!

As boondocker97 mention BDX has take offs cheep. Might just do that .

I remember some of the turbo guys talking about using m1000 reeds in their m8 turbos because they were getting slightly better life out of them. I wonder if the M1000 was using the thicker 0.56 ones and cat eventually decided to use the same ones across the board for supplier reasons?

I got a set of the take-offs for my M7 when I put new pistons in. 3500miles on it so for $50 I thought why not put new reeds in it too.

Nope, They are not. Just was pulling a hill running strong, backed out of the gas, and bogged out. 6800 rpm. Pulled the plugs, pto side white, mag side black. Thought I burned it down. Drug it off the hill, started it to run in the trailer and ran great. Got it home, checked compression and it was fine. crank run out fine. 5400 miles so thought piss on it, new top end. Bad reeds, missing pedal on mag side. Mag side running fat cause the pto to run lean??

Just guessing at this point?

The HO engines are hard on reeds. Had to change mine at 800mi. I put in the Boyesen 2 stage ones, they work well and are more durable. I checked them with about 1000mi on them and they still looked perfect.

So how did your sled run when you lost a pedal?

as mbcat said.
burble, more intake noise, poor low rpm performance. I did notice a low idle early in the day before it ate the pedal.

I already payed top dollar at a Cat dealer :( and switched them out on day 3 of the trip. Having spare reeds would be a good idea,,,

3500 miles on my 2010 HCR and I need to change reeds. Never done this before. I have been looking for a vid but no luck. Anybody know of a vid showing how to get throttle bodies off and reed swap procedure?

remove hood, air box, unplug ECU and air senser, boot that goes from air box to throttle bodies comes out towards the front of the sled, I had to take one coolent line of the TB to get them up and out of the way enough.
Thats it.

I guess I'll give it a shot. I have some carbon fibre reeds I will try out. Cat reeds are on order. Thanks for the replays. Didn't mean to high jack this thread.
