MBMS/BLIJAS 2014 M8000 162" Sno Pro 1st Build

do you know why they would have 2 different part numbers for 12-13 and '14? they have the '14 listed as 1.8 lbs lighter than the 12-13 version. why wouldn't the '14 fit on earlier sleds? i know the belly pan was changed on the '13s from 12, so the 12-13 pipes should actually be different like the HPS ones....
thanks

Both number fit all 12-14 sleds. There is still existing inventory on the 12-13 kits. When they are gone I believe that part number will go away. The new number has not been delivered to anybody yet that I know of.

Thanks for sharing the detailed steps and photos for your build. I have a 2012 HCR 800 and have started a similar build. I felt the sled was heavy and I did not like how it handled. Almost switched to a Summit but decided to try and make the Cat work. My question is am I wasting my money on the 2012 trying to update it to compare with a lightened '14? Thanks.

I wouldn't think you are wasting money as you will most likely be changing many of the things making the 2012 less capable than more current versions.

Thanks
Woody

Are any of the guys going with a different front bumper? Everything looks great but the stock bumper. My experience with that bumper led me to look at the aftermarket, just sayin.

Certainly some great options out there. We like the light weight and affordability of the Cat sport bumper. Jason actually took a good hit into a tree last year and destroyed the bumper but the rest of the sled was unscathed. We have some of the new Arctic Cat Proclimb bumpers but have not mounted them on any sleds yet. Also have some guys looking at the BD-X Pro-Lite bumper

Thanks,
Woody

great job guys!!
another 5 lbs can be shed easily with Trail Tank/BDX gas tank, and 14 Gal. as well.

I don't think the bdx seat and trail tank are 5lbs lighter than the 14 seat and tank they are running. It's more like 2 maybe 3 at the most

Many of the weight loss numbers in the aftermarket products are significantly reduced when used on the 2014 models as Cat has shed weight. The gas tank and seat were one of those areas. For example the BD-X front end is only 1lb lighter than a 2014 stock set up. I still think it is a worthwhile mod...will know for sure soon.

Thanks,
Woody

Where did the weight loss come from?

We weighed most of the stock stuff and the aftermarket when we built these sleds. This, according to our calculations, is where the weight loss came from. These losses would be more on a pre 2014 for some of the items.

Pipe Set 20lbs (estimated when we get current version)
BD-X hood 10lbs verified
BD-X front end 1lb verified
BD-X oil delete/chain case cover 8lbs verified (components only no oil in stock oil tank)
BD-X rear arms 4.5lbs verified
Idler wheels and mounts 2.5 verified
side panel ducting and all foam 2lbs estimated
Total Loss 48lbs ish

We just like the Powder Pro skis too much so we had to go with the added 2lbs to run them.

Thanks
Woody

Please let us know when you try it out. I hate to think I spent all that money just to save 1 lbs. At least your more likely not to bend a bulk head when you hit a rock with the ski.

Nice builds Woody.:thumb:

Did BDX give you a time frame on how soon they would have they're rear skid arms set up for the 2014 hardware?

Having trouble finding those vents on 2 cool, can you help me a little more like with a part number or something please and thank you so much?

Thanks Bill. No BD-X did not say when they would have updated hardware. I think only the M series has the new smaller hardware in the front and rear end.

Do you guys think the new clutch side ducting on the '14 will do anything for clutch heat ? It is better just to vent the panel? Or maybe do both ?

Our thoughts on the ducting is it may help the flat land sleds where ground speed is higher. The heat issues in the mountains are mostly in deep snow when the ground speed is slow. We hope to achieve better results by removing the ducting and all the foam as it opens up more air space. Obviously we all hope the generation of heat has been reduced. Venting to remove under hood heat is a benefit but no amount of venting or ducting is going to work if the drive system produces unacceptable temperatures. We had much better results last year so if the 2014 is better we should be in good shape.

Thanks,
Woody

Does PDP send a strap with there flap now or did you just add it knowing that they've sucked up in the past?

answers..

Just hardwire the led, took connector off...

Strap now comes with flap, I used a skinnier strap than the one supplied though..

Did it leave a bare spot on the tunnel when you removed the factory tail light housing? Did Cat paint everything after that was rivited on, or separately so it looks good still when you take it off?

paint

Its painted, need to drill a couple rivits out on the wiring cover on the end and rivet them down instead of up. Look cleaner that way.
