Anyone tried using M8 ECU on M1000 or at least compared timing curves and PV openings to see if they are somewhat compatible using a fuel box. Would use matched injectors as well. Thinking of putting a 1000 into a PC with a turbo and would be nice to leave all stock wiring in place. Stator is same I think and only other physical difference is the knock sensor which may be a bonus or could just be relocated to negate its use. Other option is if AC race team could reflash ECU for a 1000.

Wiring is mostly the same. You could just repin the ECU plug on the 800 harness to fit the 1000 ecu. It is easy to repin these connectors.
If you look into the wiring diagram, you will see how easy job it will be.

There are some things different in the chassis such as fuel guage, speedo pickup that would be nice to work. Other than that I guess an 09 up ECU would work with a Repin. Could just go with Cutlers new Redline guage and lose stock guage and gain all other functions for a turbo as well.

I guess what I am asking is if anyone knows if the HO 800 ECU and M1000 ECU programming is close enough to run for ignition curves. Fueling can be handled by an aftermarket box.

Fuel sender goes directly to instrument, and not to ECU. Also does speed sensor.
ECU and instrument communicate by bus if im correct.

Timing would be different. M1000 has rpm limiter on 8000rpm, 800HO has rev limiter on 8700rpm.
Exvalves are 2 stage on the 1000cc, and 3 stage on 800, and they are staged at different rpms.
You would need more advanced ignition someplace, and maybe not so much other places in the rpm band.
New Powercommander with ignition module would be a must to tune it.
I have a 901cc big bore on my PC 800, and have 5 degrees advanced ign at full speed.

Attached is pinout of PC800 ecu, and M1000 ECU

I heard the det sensor also wont work because of vibration and the 1k being a stroker sets them off to easy

Even if you go for the 800ecu, you could just ground the knocksensor to chassie ground. That way it want do anything with timing, and it want generate faultcodes.

Correct on that one. They tried it and the mount for it is cast and machined into head. There is also areas in back of cylinder and on rear upper half of crankcase for another fuel rail and injectors similar to the new 600 engine. Good place for secondary injectors for turbo.

The engineers told me themselves they could not get the 1000 to work with a det sensor, its just to radical.

Pinout charts

Looking at the charts above the pinouts appear the same just some of the descriptions are a little different but seem to mean the same thing other than Pin 34 on second plug. One is labeled fused DC bus and the other just says low power bus, probably means same thing. Just wondering if guage will work with 1000 motor or that may have to be changed as well. Tried running a PC guage on my 1000 and speedo wouldn't work and guage eventually quit intermittently. Switched hoods back to my other guage and speedo won't work on it either now. But all other functions do. Switched out speed sensor and still no speedo. Could running wrong guage have damaged my ECU? Runs fine just no speedo. This is on an 08 setup but both guages were Snopro version.

difference in stroke length

I would think your biggest challenge will be the difference in the engines. Im pretty sure the 1000 has a longer stroke than the 800 right? So your timing will be all messed up becasue the time between TDC and TDC will be different.....

But I guess with a controller where you can change the timing you could make it work....

Interesting subject... let me know what you figure out....

If pinouts match properly I would probably use 1000 ECU and guage together and just remove some of the wires out of connectors for fuel guage and delete speedo if that is an issue with the pickup resistance. Could work out well or cost lots $ in burning up electronics. May have to make new upper spar tube for left side to clear larger pipe as well.

Theres no problem fitting a 1000 pipe in there. You will have to mod the pipd anyhow to make it fit in the chassie.

Used 2012 Proclimb

Looking for a miled up or just plain cheap 2012. Want to do this project to something that needs a little love. I just bought a 2013 Le 153 and don't have the heart to tear it to pieces yet. Warranty is nice on something for a change as well. Beat up but not bent Proclimb is what I need to build this from. PM me with what you got or need to sell. This may turn into proto for a kit I may make available if this works well. New chassis with 1000 torque might be good. Engine is only 10 lbs more than 800 and with a Ti bolt kit and a few other goodies could be same. Pro-lite 1000 with good port job and pipe. 220 hp with 430lbs.:loco:

Could anyone tell me how it went with the ecu swap? Im in the business of doing a swap myself for my watercross project with a m1000 engine.

I have built a 2014 PC with M1000 engine. If you use a 2009-2011 ecu, you can use the 800 wiring harness as is. You only need to remove the wire for the knock sensor. Thats it.
If you need a TCL to locate the M1000 into the PC chassie, hit me up on facebook or email. We does CNC machine new tcls on request.

You will need to rewire one of the ecu connectors, as the 2007 has diamond drive reverse and the 2009 has engine revers. And if my mind serves me right, one of the 2 ecu connectors is a different size from 2007 to 2009.
I would advice to find a wiring that fit with your ecu.

If you are doing this in a proclimb chassie, and you have a 2009 m1000 ecu, your best option is to use the wiring harness from a proclimb 800/8000. It will be plug&play, and you dont need to remake it to fit the chassie. The only modification needed is to cut the wire for the knock sensor.

Ohh, and we have found the D&D 1000 pipe towork good in the proclimb chassie.

Will a cdi from 2007/2008 M8 fit a 2007 f1000 ?

Do not use an 800 ecu for timing control. Timing is everything when making power on a motor. Small differences in the curve could make your 1000 anemic or blow it up. The 1000 engine is very sensitive to detonation compared to the 800 because of the surface area of the piston crown. Sparing many details, it is a bad idea to use any ecu that is not programmed for a 1000 motor.
