So how did that real life compare of the 09 m8 and 09 xp go again. I bet you beleived ski doo when the said 151hp in 07. Also tell me the last time cat was off on there claimed hp or weights. They have been claiming 142hp m8 162hp m1000 that is pretty conservitive #s. Ski doos claimed weights have been a joke . How much weight did they gain in 2010.
I want to make it clear I am not bashing the ski doos they have been top or near the top in hp, weight and performance the last sereral years. I just think that cat is very close to the lightest next year and looks to have a hp advantage even if they lose a few hp over summer.
Thanks for the coments, I was just curious how the doo guys thought of the new m8 and having a little fun with it.

"Cat has a recent very good new engine track record m6, m7, m8, m1000 all on there first year where relatively solid" .

sounds like a salesmen that dont remember the 1st year 1000 when they were giving out 3 or 4 engines to each customer.LOL.im also guessing that a pumped to max 800 will be less dependable than a baby m6 or m7 or a stock detuned 1000.:)

I was trying to be nice but I would venture to guess that there has been more 09 xp motors that have went down than 07 m1000 motors. I have not heard of many 07 m1000 motors that went down. I know of 3 07 m1000s that have over 3000miles on them on original motors. None of the brands are perfect they all have motors that went down but I think cat motors have been relitivly problem free.

as they say do the math. when you sell 10 to 2.50 do you think your going to see more problems

Sorry to hear your bad luck with your m1000. We have had good luck with ours in our area. I don,t think there as industructable as the m7 or m8 but most are not stock and are running pipes, heads, airboxes, and boondocker boxes.

Well, frankly I have to say that its about time we start seeing some of the real two stroke technology come to snowmobiles. A RM250 makes 50 rear wheel horsepower, that is after a 20 percent+- loss from the trany and drivetrain, so call it 60 at the clutch. 250cc X 3.2=800 60 X 3.2=192

How often does a MX bike have to be rebuilt? I know I know, lotsa guys put double, triple, quad the hours they should and the bikes run fine, but freshen them up and every single guy comes back with a huge smile not realizing what they were missing, performance wise by not re-freshening their motors.

Not exactly apple to apples. A lot less stress and demand on the MX bike than a snowmobile. You say a 20% loss of hp from the clutch to the rear wheel.....sleds are double that easily. I'd almost garantee any stock sled can be atleast 10-15% better performance with simple clutching and gearing. That's still with a 50% loss to the track from the clutch. So many variables though.....we could converse all week long if we wanted to.

I've seen a 500fan with 110hp before. The guy racing it had a hard time keeping it together for 20 laps on the oval. But it did make 110hp. Saw it myself on the dyno. Doesn't mean they'll last for what they are intended for.

I for one would like to see a track BHP comparison! I bet the Cat looses it to the ground thru the diamond drive and there flat front skid design when under load? It would then need an extra 10 BHP to stay even.

new snotech magazine--cat claims 150 hp and snotech says closer to 155 --thats a ways from 165 and i cant see cat obsoleting there M1000 with a 165 m8 that will be much liter than the m1000-but time will tell--any thing in the 150-155 hp will be a huge improvement for sure:beer;:beer;

Actually check the cat website, says 160hp. Which some say may be a little low. And they are obseleting the m1000 with only one model available next year. My guess is the one one m1000 is hangin around for the turbo guys, and mod guys. just my thought!

I think there going to wail and be pretty solid. I herd all they did was changed the piston design and put a lightweight crank in it. Most of the HP gain comes from a new pipe design(i've herd) I mean its not that hard to get a 09 or 08 m8 around 160 HP just add a pipe and a few other goodies right?

For me, I welcome the competition. Its nice to have different breeds and different riders or life would get boring like some of the comments given on a simple open thread.

I too like Cat releasing the 160 horse 800, I bet ski-doo will step up next year or the year after. I was hoping to test ride one with Bret Rasmussen but they dropped the program and said he will only get one sled for himself while i was in West Yellowstone this weekend. Bad move on Cats part that was a great idea for people who wanted to test ride a different sled.

I'll tell ya one thing for sure.....we had 2 feet of fresh overnight, bashed in a trail to some riding ground that's only been used once this year. Cat, doo, stock, not stock.....they all get stuck really good. That's about the only conclusion I could draw from a couple of 07 revs, 09 xp, 08 M8. They all work pretty damned good when they're not lawndarted in a tree well or upside down in an old creek.

Dyno teck 2010 163.4 hp same dyno 09 m8 147 08 xp 150, 09xp 154, o9 dragon 143.5. Aples to apples I guess. WYOMING did you not post awhile ago how a stock 09 162 m8 out climbed all of your xp,s stock or moded. I will give you that the xp's had 154 tracks. With equal tracks I am sure thing would have been close edge going either way. Know with the cat having about 16hp more than 09 it should be hard to beat even against lightly moded equipment.

It will be up to 170 by the time the season starts next year and everyone will wonder why it still feels like 145 when they rush out and buy one. Hope it is close to the poo and doo but I would'nt hold my breath that it will be stomping the doos next year.
