Hey guys I decided to start this thread to showcase the progress of my 13' project sled build as I've had a ton of people so far show interest.

You can also get up to date photos by following along on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Stephen77Darcy

The goal of this project was to get a sled below 400lbs. yet still rugged enough for an entire season of gnarly trees, jumping, cliff drops, etc...basically a full on thrashing and hold together no problem.

Throughout the thread I'll try to explain the reasoning behind the decisions I've made and products that I've chosen.

Also before I begin I would like to thank the following companies for making this project a reality. There is no way I'd be tackling this without their help :)

Triple-S Polaris in West haven, UT-http://ssspolaris.com

Fox Racing Shoxhttp://ridefox.com
Wasatch Recreation Products (WRP)http://wr-products.com

Ice Age

Oh and http://uintarecreation.com for giving me plenty of time off to work on something like this lol

Here's a run down of what is going to be done:

-Start with a 13' 155 PRO
-Cut 5 inches off the tunnel
-Put a Timbersled skid under it w/ Fox Shox
-Mount up some lightweight Ice Age Rails
-Throw on a Polaris series 5.1 146 track
-Make it SLP stage 3
-Toss the stock seat for an even lighter WRP lower than stock seat
-Bolt on some new Diamond-S Titanium A-Arms
-Fox Shox for the front end
-Add some C&A skis
-Remove headlight/taillight
-Finish it off with FLY Dan Adams Bars
-Oh and remove several unnecessary(for me) parts

First I started with the new 2013 Polaris PRO RMK 155. I was so excited that I didn't even snap a photo when we uncrated it. This is the initial teardown. The reason I went with this sled is because of it's ridiculously low dry weight, claimed 417lbs.

Next I got a little anxious so I put in the headlight delete kit. Claimed weight savings 3 lbs. Also you can see the SLP stage 3 kit going in, initial thoughts are the quality looks top notch!

Here she is on the way to the surgeon lol

Next was the most nerve racking part so far...getting the tunnel chopped. I could have left it and just went with the 146, but I didn't want to take the chance of stabbing the rear end in if I had to hit the eject button off something and having the tunnel crease. Plus it will save weight and have a better fit and finish. Luckily my welder is a tig welder at a local Air Force base and welds F-22 engine parts, this put my mind at ease :)

And...voila! A day later it looks better than stock.

Now that the sled is back I wanted to get a feel for the wrap and make sure I didn't need any last minute pieces. Chad at Triple-S threw the hood and a side panel worth on in about 10 mins. This guys done well over 100 wrap installs in the last 2 seasons, he's AMAZING!!!

Now here's a few pics of other parts that I've got in so far. Everything should be ready in the next week or so, and I'll be updating as things are happening.

Timbersled rear suspension and Fox Evol-X rear shock, Float-2 front track shock.

Just curious why go with a 146 track instead of stock?

I wonder, did he consider a 600 144"?? Maybe theirs too much difference initially. Id love a 144" 600 w/ 660 or 685 for at home, as well as a back-up.

Very sweet build although!!

Yo, MH
running a headlight delete on my 2011... lost handwarmers, which isnt really an issue, but would be nice to fix so i can do some night riding and not freeze my thumb off... any ideas what I should look at to fix them?

Guess Darcy missed the memo about sled builds going in the members sled build forum? :face-icon-small-dis

Teal- I'll try and get a weight for you by next week, they have plenty of wraps at Triple-S I can weigh and I'll just weigh the paper afterwards to get an exact #.

XC6 - From the start I did consider a Switchback Assault 144 as it would have probably been easier to mount up a 146 but there were several factors that made me not go that route. No carbon frame, no belt drive, no carbon bumper, the skid is almost unsellable, the same with the seat, it doesn't have the nice new running boards, and the whole front end is fairly hard to sell with wide a-arms and shocks with a larger eye to eye.

BGYDOP - It's a SKINZ headlight delete.

Wellfed - I'll be updating with accurate weights throughout the thread as I have all parts to compare and post photos :)

As to all that asked about 146, well the short answer is for a 135lb guy like me it's gonna be an animal!! I've always wanted a shorter sled for whips while jumping and just plain having fun. Plus I do have a 155 and 163 available to ride anytime.

MH - I just got an extra VR in the mail from WPS yesterday!! :) I am going to PM you for some info on where to put it lol

Phatty - Thanks for your valuable input :)...I'm new at this, didn't get the memo, theres gonna be valuable info here for pro-ride section members. You deleted your headlight on the 11' and still your warmers went out? Thought it wasn't supposed to do that on 11-12

Just got this new lightweight axle in from Ice Age Manufacturing. Machining on this piece looks top notch! Plus they were able to save weight by elimination the steel end bolts in favor of these machined nuts. Rails will be here tomorrow and I'll update with some more photos!!

Ok so a few things took a while to get in and with the holidays I had take the sled home to wrench a little on it at my bosses house, but pinky is almost to completion!

Powder Coat Parts came back, they look insane bright. The last couple years I have done pink parts. They have been a huge help while filming/shooting photos in low light, snow, even sunny days!

Rear bumper and tunnel end plate fit on like a dream.
IMG_1106_zpseaf1fcde.jpg

New Fox Evol-X's came in. Fox claims it's a totally new shock size due to the 13' having such a shorter stroke and they didn't want to eliminate travel by adding shims to 11-12 units. Totally stoked they went the correct route on that one!
IMG_1083_zps0c7c20c2.jpg

Timbersled came in at 37.6 lbs (without the (4) 1-1/4" mounting bolts) but that is still 1.9 lbs less than the weight they claim. I equate that partially to the nice fabcraft lightweight composite upper idler wheels I installed and the new lightweight Ice Age rear axle they are about to release.

All in all I am sooo happy on how this thing is coming out. I knew from the get go there were plenty of companies out there that make parts lighter and stronger than stock. I didn't want to cut corners because realistically my life is on the line when I'm in the air 80-90-100+ feet. Hope everyone else is as stoked as I am :)

PS check out the Diamond-S Titanium A-Arms!! They are crazy light and the welding/machining quality is stupid good!
