What's everyone using? Will gear oil work? Synthetic atf?
What's the scoop?

75-90 w gear oil and 16 oz. if you have a 17 mt cat or 18 up it has a drain plug. I drill a 1/2 hole in the plastic below it, makes draining it easy and less messy.

It really doesn't matter either one as you change it every season. It get contaminated with water and metal before it breaks down.

I have 85-140 gear oil. Think it's too thick?

i run synthetic engine oil. its thinner than gear oil in the cold weather and it works in engines with timing chains for hundreds of thousands of miles. I also drilled a hole in the chaincase cover on my 18 cat so i can drain it without taking anything off. atf or gear oil will work fine too, but i doesnt need to be as thick as gear oil.

i would go 75-90 but what you are looking at is a bit thick. even 30 w motor oil will work. the atf is nice and thin for the cold and has done me well over the years. we have 2 ball bearing and the heat is not a deal.

I used Polaris demand drive fluid in mine before with no issues. Its what I had in the shop at the time.

The great oil debate, pretty sure most of not all of them won't do you wrong. Engines having chains and bearings, atf deals with the same stuff, and so does diff oil. I often get too caught up and over think this stuff.... You can't go wrong, just use a quality oil.
