Anybody know the best way to do a headlight delete?

I'm about to buy a 13 XM 146, and want to get things figured out as to what I want done right away.

Priority #1 for me is losing the headlight/ upper "pod".
I've been looking around, and all I can find is the whole hood from BR-tech

Also found this one:

Any reason the BR-tech hood wouldn't work well on an XM? I'm ok with losing the glove box, I mostly want the sled to be lower, it's a pain to roll over alone with how skinny & tall they are.

Any idea what the second pic is? I can't find it anywhere searching for headlight delete.

The race sled for the mod has one from BRP it's pretty sick but they only sell them to racers . Try emailing
Scheuring racing they might get you one . Or if you know a racer :). Also c3 has one I believe here is a pic of them .

I would do the factory mod one if it was me and I could get it .

Unfortunately neither of those accomplish the goal I'm after.

I can get my venting elsewhere, I'm mostly trying to get rid of the whole headlight pod area, I want it gone for simplicity & weight sake for one, but My biggest complaint about the XM is how tough it is to roll over (yes... when this is your BIGGEST complaint... it's a rough life isn't it:D )

When you make a sled narrow, and tall, once it hits it's side, it doesn't want to roll over the top. I think this will fix that in large part, as that's how I get my sled unstuck the majority of the time when I'm digging out alone.

I did my ProClimb delete with some UHMW 1/16". Got it from amazon like 40 bucks worked well . Cut it with some tin snips . Looking at the ones you posted it might work the same . At least that's what I see in your pics . I haven't seen mine yet to get a real close look at it .

I find the bars are the limiting factor for rolling the XP/XM over. Unless you do some lowrider bar setup??
What about the intake portion of the pod on the XM?

I don't have the sled yet brew, so maybe I'm missing that there's more to this than I'm thinking?

The blue sled sure looks like a bought part... that looks like exactly what I want ideally.

The bars for me will be about 2" lower than stock, so that's less of a factor than for most. The bars you can usually get to shove down in the snow, or even just stomping one big hole for them will do the trick. The headlight & windshield on the other hand... they provide a bit more resistance.

So the intake pod you mention, would it be compatible with the BR tech setup? I'm sure I could get one from Brock pretty easily, I just want to keep this as simple as I can.

Air

Didnt Brockgo out of business? You could probally get one of his hoods mocked up on there but you would still need the fresh air intake which is built into the underside of the XM hood. I've been wanting to doo a headlight delete on my etec but I haven't seen anyone running pods or a different intake on the etecs with exception on C3$$$$$$$!!!!! Tho.

I've heard that from a few people, but a buddy just bought a hood from him a few weeks ago... not sure what he's got going on lately!

Got ya on the intake... I was thinking it was below that pod. Oh well, I'm sure losing the windshield will help a bit, we'll see. Anything that CAN be eliminated... I'll do my best to, but it sounds like that's not as simple as I was thinking. (and my last name isn't vanderbilt... so C3 stuff is out for me :D)
I haven't had headlights since 06, so don't really need to start now... I guess I'll just pull them & gain venting if that's all I can do. I ride with a small Cree LED light that puts out a bit more than an H4 on bright, (1600) that I've never had to use, but it's there if I need it! (and will provide light in case my sled were to die or be turned off)

On the XM it looks like I'd save at LEAST 11.245 ounces by losing the headlights!!! :face-icon-small-win

Just pull the windscreen off if you have to roll it over. It's only held on w/ 3 bullet / rubber grommet connections. I had to roll my X over in heavy powder up at Brandywine last week and it took a few tugs but wasn't that big of deal.

Ditch the windshield. I leave on the windshield mounting trim only to give a more finished look. The f
freeride shield next year is super low.
Stock intake works very good, would be a challenge to try to make something else work better
Headlight delete with venting might be an option.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

Im trying to get into an XM and will be wanting to doo the same thing. When I was building my turbo XP I was going to use the MENZ TOYZ headlight delete kit, plumb it into the stock airbox. I was going to cut the air box in halves and just use the bottom side for mounting and connection points. Since its the same chassis you could try something like that, and the headlight delete from them is sweet! Hopefully a mesh hood is in the works for the XM! Could be a good weight savings and custom look.

Would be awesome to have a complete replacement for the 15lb hood assembly. Something hinged or quick detach. The hood is only 4 torx to get off but not like you want to do that in the field. Also, with the hood off you can access the whole engine bay area really easy. I was talking to Winterbrew at his shop about how nice it would be to have a complete replacement that just held the gauge. I wasn't thinking about the intake though...

I would love to see an airframe style. Dont know how that would work with the stock airbox. Could it be reattached to aftermarket hood? Pretty huge weight reduction!!

Well... they put a 146 together for me today, let me go ride it, I yanked the windshield off before I even took it, but after today, I'm buying it. LOVE the 146, what great track. The feel of a shorty with pretty darn nice float.

Even with the windshield off though, it takes way more "space" to roll the XP than a cat or poo... kinda weird thing to be concerned with, but if you're riding tech, and have to roll it, aside from the additional effort, if just goes further with a roll than my other sleds.

This put me sideways into a tree rolling out of a trench today... gonna just take some work to get used to I guess.

I'm going to talk to Brock & see if he's done any etec's... maybe the intakes could go right in the side of that gauge pod on his setup.

Got to be honest... I love the glove compartment though. Compared to the POS on the proclimb... that thing is handy as sh**!! even with the windshield off and rolling it a few times today, it kept stuff dry. Cool design.

BCIL I thot the little "trunk" was useless at first. I'm getting a pretty large amount of tools in there with some creative packing. Also, the glove box has been leaking on ours and steaming the goggles. Thinking about drilling a bunch of holes in the bottom.

Im not sure why you seem to be having trouble flipping the sled over. When i tried out the xm last year(154) there was a few times i had to flip it over to get unstuck or whatever and i didnt find it that bad at all. And im not a big guy(5'5" and 135lbs no gear lol) Much easier then trying to flip my rev(151) ill tell you that much. I dont know, but maybe it was easier because the snow was good..
