What would be a good .22 rifle for praticing shooting at the range? I might use it for varmit hunting too. I found a ruger at a local store that had a red dot scope for like 260 that i really liked would you guys recomend that or not really. Im kind of new to shooting and hunting. Have been through hunters safety and all that stuff already.

I am a big fan of Henry .22 and .17HMR guns. Incredible actions and accuracy. Adds some fun too with the lever action. It will take a gun smith to mount a scope (assuming you aren't one yourself), but I wish I could show you the targets I had from a month ago comparing a scoped vs non-scoped. Way closer than it should have been at 30yds:face-icon-small-sho Perhaps I am just a poor shot...haha.

But, to answer one question, I think that due to cost .22 caliber guns are tons of fun. Nothing with gun powder is cheaper to own and maintain. And it is a quiet enough caliber not to give you a headache after 5 shots...

10/22 is also reliable...have 4 of them and clean them every time I get done shooting!

Have a buddy that has NEVER cleaned his for over 8 years now and it still works (not recommended)!

Also have a 17 hmr and love that round..fun to explode gofers :)

Do they make any other .22 than a 10/22? Mine has killed more crap than the plague. Make sure you get the Steel Lips mags though.

For just plinking and squirrel hunting a 10/22 is awesome.
Accurate out to 100 yards. 150 is doable but kinda iffy on the accuracy. Put a bull barrel on it and at 50 yards you can stack rounds in the same hole.

And like it was said before kills more crap than the plague. Had mine for better than 15 years and shoots just as good and reliable as the day I bought it.

The 10/22 is one of the best auto loaders you can buy for cheap! I would recommend one of the higher end bolt action 22s for serious target shooting at a range. Yes, Ruger does make one of these (77/22). I've had one for years; it came with good 1" Ruger scope mounts. It has beautiful wood and quality finish. I am thinking around $600, but will last a life time!

I've had my 10/22 for 17 years. Can't be beat for the price. I had 30 round banana magazines. That was alot of fun back in the day.

You can get the CZ in a combo as well with both a 22LR and a 17 HMR barrel in the same box. Just bought one for a disabled shooter I work with and it was a tack driver. EW.

Definitly the Ruger 10/22. Anyone who tells you they are junk doesn't know jack about them. They cant be beat in price and reliability. And as it was said, you can customize them to your heart's desire. There is no end to the possibilities. Theres even a kit to put 2 of them together and make a dual-barrell gattling gun! :usa2:
