Hey guys,

I've been running my gear down kit from Kurt Polaris for about 400-500 miles (2.41 ratio).

I had MDS weight last year with their recommended 110-290 primary spring.

With the gear down kit, i ordered also the clutch kit. (primary spring, delrin washer, secondary spring and helix).

I kept my MDS weight and put Kurt Polaris clutch kit with the gear down. One thing i noticed was the high engagement... 4700-4800 rpm and you could sometimes hear and feel a "knock" because it was engaging hard.

I mostly ride trees at 3000' and i'm 200 pounds.

I then called Kurt and he told me to try some Polaris 10 series weight and that would help lower the engagement. That's what i did and now it engage at 4150. But i can feel that the 10 series weight doesn't have the same low end punch but it might be only a "feeling".

With both set of weight the max RPM in the powder is good : (8200-8300) with MDS and (8150-8200) with Polaris weight. On the trail the MDS were hitting 8450 and the Polaris 8300.

Is there a "target" rpm for engagement or it's just personal preference? Anyone else have some experience with MDS weight and gear down kit's on their Pro? Should i keep the MDS weight but use their 110-290 primary and keep the secondary spring & helix of Kurt kit ?

You don't have to use their primary clutch spring if you don't want to. MDS uses a different philosophy than most clutch kits out there and uses a light spring and light weight. I tried MDS weights and didn't like it at all. Too much engine braking for me. I prefer a heavy spring and a heavy weight personally. I feel it is less sensitive to altitude RPM change. Anyways, your options are: Use the MDS weights with the spring it provided, or use the green spring (which is a 140/330 TEAM) and either 10 series weights or try some other types out there. I run the SLP MTX weights and really like them. Gives great throttle response.

And a target RPM I like on a Pro is 4000RPM engagement, 8350-8400RPM peak. Rule of thumb, 10# spring change or 1 gram of weight change will provide ~100RPM change either way you go.

Call Rogers Sports in Cody. Order their custom helix with Lightning weights. IT FLAT RIPS!!!! It will work with your gearing.

Track speed and tree riding it can't be beat.

benltr You will need the 46-32F ER / 46-34F ER kit.

What spring do you use with this Helix ??? I've been considering this route but lost on the spring .. Red/Black?? Blue / Black ?? Or hold it up on the Black/purple ??

10k is where I usually ride using 56-58 grams and 140/330

I run the mds weights and the recommended 110/290 spring on my pro also, but the rest of the clutching is stock. From what i've heard, the mds clutching is meant to work with stock components, stock belt and the stock secondary clutching.
