Rifle elk was good to me. I packed a camp in and got into some elk on opening day. the 5x6 had cows with it and the raghorn 5x5 was by itself. Lots of packing and cutting. Nothing like getting 2 bulls down in one day solo.

I will say that hunting off of a mtn bike works, really well. Camp was a bivy sack and tarp.

now looking for a whitetail and a muley and wolf if i can.

hope everyones season goes well

Arrowed this at 20 yards on 9/6/11. In the pouring rain. Nothing like quartering a big bodied bull and packing it out in the rain and the dirt was so saturated is was more like skiing in the mud with 400 pounds on your back.

Congrats on your elk. In Colorado, we are only allowed to shoot one a year.

idaho is allowing residents to buy a resident tag and a non resident tag. Yes, we pay the non resident price. I had a goal of 2 elk for a reason. I wanted to give the meat from one of the elk to my employees. Raises are hard to give right now, so i figured some meat could come in handy.

Oh how I wish I could put my smiling face along side the elk I chased all bow season for you guys. Just couldn't seal the deal, he haunted me all season, even when I would go out and tell myself, Mueller, just get an elk and get home. He would present himself, I would hunt him, he would disappear. Then he would be back the next day, same canyon, different spot.

Sometimes at night, I wake up screaming and chewing on the corner of my pillow, sweat pouring from my body, with the echos of his bugle still ringing in my ears...dear God help me.

2011 Idaho Bull Moose Hunt

I had a great ID moose hunt. I got my bull the second morning, about 9:05 on the 18th of Oct. I was coming out of the trees on an old logging road when I saw the bull standing broadside about 175 – 200 yds away. Having a nice set of antlers (measured about 38” - 39”) and being about 107 yds from camp, I sat down and cross-haired him with my 338RUM using 250 Accubonds and made a perfect shot; behind the right shoulder. While getting him field dressed, I found the heart blown up, but no exit hole – yeehaw, another recovered bullet for my collection. So here are the pics I took of him in the field.
Disregard the date on the pics, I fixed that right after reviewing the pics on the camera.

Did my first out of state hunt to Wyoming this year. Came home with my first Speed goat and a little 3x3 mulie. Had a great time and already looking forward to next year.

Got my meat back last night.

My bull weighed 335lbs on the meat hook...Gutted, skinned, legs lopped off at the knees and no head or horns.

So...that's with just bones and meat.

Live weight he MIGHT have been 535lbs?

Those peope that say they have a 1,000lb bull are SO full of CRAP!!!!

Nice work Tim.

Got this on Sunday.

I have a entire pen full of bulls over 1,000lb at a year old. But they are angus! :face-icon-small-ton

63% yeild is standard on feeder cattle. I would guess your carcas was not that heavy as it wont have the gut capacity a steer would have...

The bull elk I took a couple years ago was 585 lbs on the butchers scales. It was weighed the same as yours Scott. I'll bet with guts, hide, legs, head and antlers he was pushing 1000 lbs. What do you suppose all the "extras" would weigh????????
