2010 m8 162 spark plug wires rubbing threw

Have a 2010 m8, that is having an issue with cutting out that I indicated on a previous thred. Still having same problem think it might be the throttle position switch, but I disconected the plug to the switch I think and still had problems. Then I descovered that the spark plug cables had been rubbing, but they had not gone all the way threw yet but I replaced anyway. Now I got confused about witch wire went to witch plug on same cylinder, don't know if it matters and if so how do you tell

Did you do just the wires - unscrewing both ends?

I checked mine and the RH side is rubbing together, but sled still runs fine.

The right side was the problem for me too but I replaced whole thing then found out from a friend that could have replaced wires and saved a couple hundred on it. Still having problems with boging/cutting out. Does everyone agree that it doesn't matter witch wire conects to witch plug on same cylinder

Does not matter. Try unhooking all the wires going to the handle bars and key. What do you mean by cutting out, what rpm, does it die, bog or what.

At a slow speed and about 4500rpm then try to acelerat and it dies off like you hit kill switch then comes back after about 2 to 3 sec

Try unhooking everything going to the bars and key switch, you will have to remove the cover on the steering loop behind the pipe, then let us know what happens.

It really does not matter. However they fit better is fine.
I agree. Also the coils and plug wires are a one piece assembly, found out the hard way. Why the hell would they not have the plug wires separate from the coils??? $250.00 cdn per coil & wire assembly. Freakin money grab.

You can take them apart and piece in new wires and plug caps
Just took a good hard look at one of the coil-sparkplug wire assemblies that came off of my 08 M1000 and i stand by my earlier statement that the spark plug wires cannot be replaced without replacing the complete coil and wire assembly.

I have a 08 and the wire un screws from the coil and the plug cap.Oops sorry mine is a 1000

I was told the same thing on my '10 M8.
I had them apart, one had wire showing so I figured it was already fawked, but two different people and my dealer said it wouldn't work. Sure, I could push/twist it back in there, but how effective?
I didn't check to see if they were right. My dealer warrantied them for me:face-icon-small-win

Just because they don't sell them separately doesn't mean it can't be done. I have done it and used a piece of wire off a car and it worked just fine. If you don't trust then don't do it but it cost me nothing and the sled ran good.

I stand corrected, went out and UNSCREWED spark plug wire from old coil:doh:. No more calling my Cat dealer with questions since it seems that the forum members are more knowledgeable than my dealer. Just glad i only paid $150.00 on ebay for 4 coils and wires. Bright side is i have some spares now.

Don't listen to me I'm a prick that is a know it all but doesn't know anything, or at least thats what some think. Glad to help when I can. But I wouldn't rule out your dealer, they have way better training and tools than we do, just use a second opinion as an option.
