I've had this discussion with my offroad group and snowmobile buddies. I completely understand both...or several...sides of the discussion. Like most of you, I have used many types of 2-ways with hits and misses. The past 2 seasons I have been using the BCA and almost all of my riding buddies do as well. The reason is simple. BCA identified what backcountry users were looking for and put together a package for that purpose. Could I put together a communication package myself that works as good or better that costs less?...Absolutely! But in the end, i chose to go with off-the-shelf package that works great for me and my family. To each his own.
Back on topic...whether or not you like how BCA wrote the article, the content of the article is full of good information about the recent changes to 2-way communication rules. Since they wrote it and are offering a product that complies with FCC rules for it's intended use, I don't have a problem with them pointing out other products being sold for the same type of use that do not comply with FCC rules. It's just education. We don't have to like the rules...what American does. I thought the article was pretty funny...Black Suburbans...like that would EVER happen!?!
