The Dangerous Polaris Foot Hoop - Different idea

My wife and daughter have both had near misses from the foot hoops this year. I honestly thought my daughter had broken her ankle as her body and leg was 90° to the stuck boot in a neutral positioned sled while she was laying in the snow screaming in pain when I arrived on scene. Very Scary. Luckily, she must have had just enough room in the boot that resulted in a badly sprained ankle. I had my incident in 2009 with a blown knee that has never been the same and sometimes limits my technical riding.

Honestly I’d rather have just cut them off as they serve no structural purpose but was concerned resale would suffer.

While going through spare parts bins, I came across some 6-7” risers that seemed to fit the bill. A Powermadd and a stock BRP riser. Cut them in half. The 4-5” Polaris riser used on T-Top Polaris Steering posts from 07-08 looks cleaner but didn’t have enough. I don’t care for adding weight but the safety of this solution far exceeds the weight penalty.

This is a pretty good idea! Being 6’5 and having size 15 boots, they tend to get stuck in the loops a lot. I haven’t had any injuries yet from it but this was smart!

This is similar to the Everett ankle savers

The resale equation could be a factor. We know there are guys out there who'd pass because of it. I'd still think most buyers won't care, or if they're like me (my pro came with them already removed), it's one less thing to worry about, but it is something much easier to remove than replace. Even at that though, I wouldn't give it a second thought if you have them and want to remove them: losing a little money on resale is still much cheaper than a torn-up knee.

Like Pauly Shore would say, you’re thinking locally and we’re acting globally. Resale in Washington state has changed over the last few years. Our dear leader King Inslee is rubbing off on people.

This is why I created Everett Ankle Savers, as stated earlier. Hundreds of happy customers:-) I still have a few sets left for the season. Shoulda sold that riser and used the proceeds to pick up a set.

the problem with just cutting them off is that you take aa triangle and make it... not one... so. better solutions exist lol

Cutting them off has no noticable impact on strength ....only plusses - no chance of foot entrapment and knee / ankle damage plus you can get your foot further forward for controlled descents ...
