area 406\fish creek\surveyour\ great burn

all three names are the same general riding area.
you will be driving on i-90 for 2 hours until the fish creek exit. Than probably another half hour to the unloading point.
great riding area just long drive.

I know most people don't worry about the land use side of things, but occassionally it needs brought up.

The 406 side of area 406 has been closed since 2000. You are actually riding in area 208. The road to the outhouse and out past the outhouse to the ridge is legal. But not getting off of that road. There where fish cops up there last year giving tickets for that.

Once you are on the ridge, dropping to the left or into montana is not legal, but is the best riding in there. Most guys do drop in that way, but you should know.

The bummer part is that the lolo national forest wants the clearwater national forest to close the clearwater natl forest down to snowmobiles.
MAinly if idaho is closed there will be no reason to sled there and any trucks parked at the bottom will be illegal.

This travel plan for the clearwater national forest has been put on hold for this year, but the clearwater national forest really want to make the great burn a wilderness area. When the time comes we will really need everyone to right letters to keep this great riding area open.

So when you are over there, keep this in mind and be ready to write letters and fight for this area. I am also losing this area to my mountain bike, another set of letters and another time.

Tim, where is the best place to send the letters? And what area do you refer to it as in the letter?

TIM, google maps puts fish creek just south of white hall...is that you one you're talking about? That's over 4 hours from Spokane on I-90 alone.

I'm IN for Saturday, maybe Sunday too(?), if anyone has an extra place or two on their trailer let me know, I have gas money for you.

i am the one

the fish creek exit is between superior and alberton.

throttle junkie
The battle will start back up again next fall, atleast according to the ranger i talked to in november. So no letters yet, just trying to get the pump primed.

it's the next exit past supiorer when your heading towards missoula.

holeman if you go to sleep at a descent hour instead of 2 am, it's not as bad to get up in the morning...

count on it being 3 hours from when you leave cda to be actually riding...

Well i just got home(stayed the night in Regis) Once we got in there i would say it was the best snow i've seen this year. But i have'nt been any where either.Had a great time BRian,Shad<bb. Lets do it again. I know the flatlander is coming and you guys want to be easy on him but i think the only way he will really remember it is if we put him through the paces. If he wimps on us i will ride him double through the trouble spots and go back and get his sled. Now X I have Betsy (my pet sheep) all sheared up so and looking good. You just need to remember to talk nice and soft because she will kick. See you when you get here or there where ever see you then. Oh and you better bring your pain meds cause your going to need them.

Is that because riding Betsy is hard on you or just first timers?

No box shad...don't have the $$$ to pay for it and all the other things that come with sleddin...i'll just have to watch you turbo boys climb the gnarly stuff...I'm good at taking pictures ;)

Negative Nitro...the pattern is full:D

Spicy...don't you worry, I'll be in bed around 8 pm...and yea, i'm ready to drive to find some decent snow!!!

Thanks for addressing this Tim. We all want to play there for many years to come. So everyone stay out of the wilderness area.

Ok I am an idiot I can not figure out how to copy and paste my gps overlay from google earth to here i have tried several different ways...

I dumb:confused: well ignorant.

FOR THE RECORD, it does look like great riding in the closed areas of 406. And it was tempting because we saw tracks in there. But, we didn't partake of the apple. We kept it squeaky clean and plan on doing the same thing on Saturday and Sunday.

I knew you youngsters (and 03Rmking) would freak on the time or saturdays ride. But its a drive and gotta make hay while the sun is shining. Try getting up early every so often. Its very liberating, just ask TOM after a night out in REVY!

Anyone staying over on Saturday night?
BB

Save it in your video editing program as a gif or jpeg file. Or import it into your photo editor for your camera. Then send it to your photobucket site (it will probably be too large of a file otherwise) then post like you do any photo. Or send the file to me and I can do it later.

Hardass, I am glad we were finally able to ride somewhere together. Been too long. Glad your comin down for the weekend, even if I wont be able to keep up this time.
