Alpine, WY Snow Report Rockin' M Ranch 1/26/2024
Nothing real significant has happened here in the last 10 days. Skies have been gray, high temps have been 32-36 degrees in the valley for a couple of hours each afternoon. We have had a few rain snow mixes in the valley, but still not much moisture. Last night a skiff, less than an inch. We have about 2 feet on the level here at the cabins. The cabin roads are still snow covered. There is plenty of snow and decent coverage at all elevations. The bad, everything is settled, not rock hard, but not great either. The report from my cabin guests yesterday was 4-6" of soft snow on top of more firm snow, over 8000 feet, but gets pretty firm quickly when you drop elevation. Decent snow can probably be found up higher but the avalanche conditions are sketchy. Unfortunately we are forecast to get 3-4 days of 40 degree weather over the weekend and the first of next week. The best that we can hope for is that the warm weather settles, refreezes, lowers the avalanche risk, and we get some new snow at the end of next week. For now, it's March conditions in January with considerable avalanche risk on the steep terrain.
Current Snotel: Willow Creek 57" Spring Creek 52"
Considerable avalanche danger at middle and high elevations.
Paste from BTNF Avalanche:
Weak layers formed in December buried 2-4 feet deep consisting of hard slabs are capable of producing large and wide human triggered avalanches. Two avalanches resulting in full burials have occurred in the last 6 days (Willow Creek, Palmer Creek). Both avalanches occurred in the middle elevations on N and E aspects where the slab is thin, easy to trigger, and preserved weak snow is most reactive. This layer is slowly trending less reactive but we are not out of the woods yet. Triggering an avalanche on steeper slopes above 35° will still be likely today in the middle and upper elevations across all aspects. Upper elevations where the weak layer is buried 2.5-3 feet deep will be less reactive such as the Salt and Snake River Ranges.

February 3, 2024 Alpine WY Snow Report Rockin' M Ranch
We picked up about 3" of fairly wet snow here at the Rockin' M cabins in the last 24 hours. Willow creek snotel looks to have picked up about 12". Forecast is for snow most every day this next week.

And a couple more inches last night here at the cabins. Good news is snotel shows Willow gaining 20" in the last few days. Friends riding today claim that there is substanially more than 20" new. The Salt river range got slammed the last few days. Looks like we should be back to some pretty good riding for the near future. We still have a few cabins available for the upcoming weeks. rockinmranchwyoming.com or 307-654-2288

Got into Alpine Friday morning (2/2/24) to 42 degrees and pouring rain. Figured we would give it a day or two to see what happens before we make the 32hr drive home to upstate NY. Thank goodness we waited. By Monday conditions were rocking. Rode smiths fork Saturday. Rode Willow Creek the rest of the week as they continued to pick up substantial amounts of snow daily/nightly. Incredible riding. Over the hood white room type riding everyday. Zones were practically resetting overnight.

Man that’s look awesome, we fly in Saturday from Southern California to sled for 3 day. This looks promising.

Any chance for a single rider to hook up with other riders there? Can't seem to get anyone locally to go out

RockinM, Do you know anyone who has RV sites available 3rd week in March? Was looking for something within an hour or so of Jackson, thanks

I would check with the greys river tavern/rv resort and there is a new RV park next to Broulims grocery store on the North side of the Snake River. FYI, we picked up about 2-3” here at the cabins in the last 24 hours. Snow in the forecast until Friday morning. Looks like a good week to be here.

About 8 to 9 inches fell overnight here at the Rockin M cabins. Plus we had about 3 to 5 inches a few days before that. The riding for the Presidents’ Day weekend should be as good as it gets. Plenty of lower elevation places to go and have great riding without getting into, the high avalanche danger. Snow should be good at all elevations. In general the avalanche danger is high. Be careful out there. If anyone is making a last-minute trip, we still have a few cabins available. Give us a call. 307-654-2288 or Rockinmranchwyoming.com .

We’re thinking about heading that way end of the month, hopefully storms keep up and conditions stay awesome.

Hey Chris, would you mind generating one of your snow total reports from now until March 4th for the higher elevations around the Alpine and Afton areas? We’re trying to decide if it’s worth the drive up this weekend or if we should stay south in Colorado.
Thanks in advance!
