I know I'm beating a dead horse, but why can't manufactures build these things right from the factory so the consumer doesn't have to buy a bunch of aftermarket crap? Pre filters, heavy duty intake filters, seat bag, lite weight can, etc. these are products that would change the price of a production machine by a very minimal amount, if at all. Atleast put all the good stuff on the snowcheck sleds so we feel like we are getting something for our extra money other than a couple of crappy color choices and a less than adequate shock package. Polaris does it, and does it cheaper than their competitors. Rant over...

Unfortunately it is not true that you can add everything in for minimal cost. I have had stock filters for 5 years and broke one, so have not needed them, so do you add the cost for the many who do not need them or make it an add-on for those that do and the price goes up. A can is 300-1000 dollars, so if you want one you get to choose your price, design, and sound. If the manufacture adds it, rants will just be why this one, not that one and why so much? Actually the ski-doo was the cheapest sled at retail this year over the other manufactures. The best thing about after market gear is you get to choose where your hard earned money goes, shock packages, skids, turbos, big bores, it is all up to you and where and how you want to spend or save. That is pretty good!

thanks for posting, dave. I missed these in the catalog, and will definitely be ordering them. like a spare belt, these could save a weekend for me or a buddy. So i'll be adding them to the trailer for an emergency.

Doo definitely did their homework on the G4 before releasing.

I love that the accessories were ready to fit without modification to the sled before the release.

just saying..

In the case of the suspension or can you may be right, but in the case of pre filters and heavy duty intake screens, in a mass production situation it amounts to literally a few penny's per sled. Sometimes I think these things become an after thought due to lack of real world testing and by the time the manufacture realizes there is a problem it's to late because they've already made a mass production run of the inferior part. As far as value, "Retail price" means nothing to the consumer...its what you actually have to pay for the sled out the door after negotiation, and you can buy a axys in 163x3" LE for $1000 less than a doo and a 174x3"LE for the same price in multiple locations in our area. Why didn't I buy a polaris then your probably asking? Because everyone I know rides one, and I like to be different. Don't get me wrong Dave, I'm not just bashing Ski doo...I've been riding Cats for 25 years and they are just as bad about forcing you to purchase aftermarket. This is one area that Polaris is leading the pack...lots of options, colors, suspension, storage, handle bar height, etc. right from the factory with a spring order, with very competitive pricing. So far I like my new 850, but to get it where it needs to be... Suspension, lite weight can, skid plate, shorter bar riser, battery compartment cover, seat bag, linq system, tunnel bag, etc. I will be in it around $19,000 us.

I think part of it is to throw the dealers a bone. I have a buddy that used to sell cats and he said they'd only make a few hundred bucks per sled, the margins are so thin. That makes sense especially for mountain sleds it's a niche market with a ton of competition. Selling high margin accessories is the only way it is worth being in the business for the small dealers.
