Recommended Probe?

Wondering what guys recommend for probes? I currently have a klim probe that used to work great in my klim backpack that had an external pocket. Problem is I went to a bca float throttle 22 last year and there is no external holder for my probe. The probe is a 3 meter probe and each segment is roughly 18 inches long and has to go inside the pack. It fits but barely. I'd like one with shorter segments so it fits a little easier. Any recommendations guys?

If things go right, we shouldn't be using a probe. Obviously we need to have one just in case. I went with the BCA Stealth Carbon 240 probe. It barely weighs anything but is tough as nails when it's deployed (I didn't want to say "erect"). Best part is BCA makes gear for snowmobilers and doesn't support land management initiatives that would close terrain for sledders. Click image for URL!

Thanks for the input guys. I agree on the quality of bca gear. Only question I have about the 240 is is it long enough? It would fit great in my pack though.

It's almost 8 feet. Obviously you need a little bit to hold onto. I was told that any burial after 6 feet has a very low chance of recovery. Between finding the person, shoveling them out and them surviving. But maybe the rescuers had too short of probes! :face-icon-small-con

The 300 is about a foot longer.

To answer your question, all of the BCA probes will fit in your Throttle 22 pack. They all will be a little tight, but they will fit. I'm currently using the aluminum 240 in my Throttle 22.

240cm=7.9'
270cm=8.9'
300cm=9.8'

BCA has a few notes on probe fitment in their packs: http://backcountryaccess.com/faqs-avalanche-probes/

Yes below 6' survival odds are not good, but they are not zero. Plus, body recovery still needs to happen even if the unthinkable occurs. I have always carried a 3m probe. 240cm is the shortest I'd consider. The really short probes (few out there under 2.4m) seem like an insult to the value you place on your companions' lives in my opinion. For organized rescue it is recommended to use at least 3m probe, thickest diameter body you can get, and aluminum not carbon for durability. Also, T6 heat treated aluminum shovels only in my opinion.
