Re gear Xfire going to 153 2.6?

I've pretty much decided that I'm going put a 153 2.6 under my 2011 Crossfire 8 for my trip out west next year. My question is, going from the 141 cobra to a 153 2.6 power claw, should I drop my gearing a little bit? I'm not super concerned about playing in the trees yet, just getting starting mtn riding, so I feel like gearing is not quiet as critical for me as for you tree bashers :face-icon-small-ton Just don't want to burn up belts...

what's the gearing on the xfire? you could just give it a shot and see how you like it. my buddy just put the 2.6 on his m7 with stock 67/53 gears, which i know its not the same goin 153 to 153, but it pulled it just fine with a lot less power than the 800Ho. personally i geared my m7 down for personal preferance to 55/65 and couldn't be happier, and i think that's what the 2010-2011 m8s are geared at for what its worth. this probably doesn't help at all, but its all the personal experience i have with the 2.6 and regearing the m

IMO the 60/60 gear is why the 1000 were hard on belts. Its easy to regear when your changing tracks. 2010/2011 are 55/65. Do that. m2c

stock

yup the stock are 60 60. I know it would be a good idea, and probably more fun if i did, but the problem is after and before my 1 or 2 trips west, I spend a lot of time trail riding with the family. Either ditchbanging here in iowa (where the lower gear would be ok and maybe eve fun) but I don't think it would be a good idea when we go up to Wisconsin. Shooting across lakes and long wide trails. It gets bad enough gas mileage the way it is, wont gearing up just make it worse? or i could switch back to stock anytime Im not going west... :juggle:

55/65 is out of gear at 83ish MPH so I've cruised at 70 many times but I don't think you want to go much faster for long periods of time . Hard on sliders and probably the track . I was just thinking you would install the track and gears every time you go west. I bought 141 rails and 1.6 track 59/61 gears for my HCR but we had to much snow here to even think of taking off the 153. Next year will probably be different.

That is probably what I will do, buy another set and just switch them out when I go west. At 83 thats a whole lot of difference compared to the stock 100+. say hello to a 5+ hour sled work day before and after going west :face-icon-small-dis

if your just talkin gear change before and after each trip out west once you've done it once or twice you'll be able to pull the case swap the gears and reinstall the case in probably a half hour to fourtyfive minutes tops. just make sure you buy new bearings for the new gears. at least the small ones that are pressed on to the end of the gears, it will save a lot of time over trying to swap the bearings off the old gears. same thing with the track swap, once you've done it a few times on a DD sled you'll be able to do it in no time at all. my m7 is the easiest sled I've ever changed a track on.

I stretched my crossfire to a 153 a couple years ago and the 60/60 gearing works in the Big Horns but I am going to regear to55/65 because some of the steeper places I almost run out of power. If you don't get too silly the stock gearing works fine

I run a 2011 M8 153. I put a 3" on it and the stock gearing works just fine out here in the west. If it works where you are it will work here, it is only a 2.6" track.

The problem is chances are I wont be able to test it out here in Iowa before going west over christmas break, and even then an Iowa ditch test wouldnt tell me much. The only reason it will take so long to change everything is im planning on doing all the reclutching necessary, track change, rail change and gear change. Sounds like i will re gear thanks guys
