Opinions on 163x3x16 CE and 7T avid drivers

At first I turned the track by hand after the install and it was making a racket, I thought something was hitting in the tunnel but I couldn't find anything. I decided to fire it up and get it alligned and tension it. Once that was done I checked for anything rubbing and there were no signs after inspecting the paddles and the drivers looked good. I'll chalk my initial concern up to it just being a new stiff track. There was no noticable vibration in the powder or on the hardpack. The only difference was that on the hardpack I could actually hear the track pushing a ton of air, made a whooshing noise but no vibration. With the conditions that we had I tried to put the track to the test as best as I could. What I found was that in the powder with the track speed up the sled had more of a floating feeling than with the 2.3, and at slow speed it just tractors around like nothing else i've ridden, it didn't spin and trench just hooked up and pushed the sled forward. Really looking forward to putting this track to the test when the snow gets deeper. I also left the gearing where I had it, 19-49. With the 7t's I figure i'm somewhere around 2.70-2.80 to 1. For me, top speed on the trail or lake is of no concern, so this is a good combo for me.

I set it up on the tighter side just to allow for the track to strectch. I plan on running it as loose as I can without seeing any issues. I'll keep you posted.

We run about 1" of free hang like a stock track and have about the same amount of black marks in the tunnel as a stock track....they will stretch a bit. :face-icon-small-hap

Install with two people if possible. you shouldn't have any clearance issues.

Got my 4th ride in today, still mostly trail with a little bit of Pow. No issues as of yet. Holding up real well. This should end up being a great deep pow track, little trenching and great floatation are a good combo.

Well I finally got out to play yesterday in 3 ft of fluff....holy crap was it deep !!! The track performed very well. 10,000 times better than the stock. There was some vibration at the beginning but as the day wore on and the track stretched a bit, the vibration was gone. It is a keeper. On another note, my airframe boards were also a bonus in the deep stuff, but as the snow got a little wetter, it was starting to collect at the rear mounting brackets and along the edge of the tunnel.....still better than stock.

Now for some clutching and possibly a little gearing and it will be an awesome machine.....the 872 is running very well !!!! Got the rpms and the egts are spot on but leaving about an inch of my primary at the top and only seeing 50 mph track speed in the deep.......

Well I have had several rides on the 3" now and I must say it performs very well !! Floatation and rideability is second to none and if anything i find it easier in the trees than the stock track. No delamination issues yet, but I have noticed that the lugs are starting to fold a little at the tips. I assume this is normal due to the length of the lug and the long trail ride into my fav area. Starting to see a little cord on the outer edges of the track, but there is only.25 " clearance between the track and rear brackets...so that doesnt surprise me. Vibration is minimal and all in all a good setup with the 7T drivers. I would not hesitate to recommend this setup to anyone. Track speed with my current clutching and the 872 is 55 mph and holding on a steep climb.

What was your track speed before ?

I really couldnt tell you. I was breaking my engine in at the end of last season with the stock track and drivers so I wasnt really given 'er much. Changed the track and drivers over the summer and diff head and breaking in my engine this winter with diff clutch set ups I have gone from 48 mph this season to 55 mph. Just nice to see it constantly improving....and that is the speed on the gauge, not adjusted for drivers.

Well I have lots of miles on my sled now with the 3" and no problems. I have the only 3" in my group and peeps are constantly amazed how well it performs. No trenching...gets on top of the snow....tractors around in the trees and climbs forever. But...when it gets stuck, it really freakin gets stuck !! I will always have a 3" track. I love my build...best sled ever !!!
