Obama just signed an executive order that required us to use Vegetable Oil, so back to the drawing board on the oil change! I'd hate to see what Prinoth charges for Canola.

;-)

Obortion!! can kiss my grass if he things I'm going to buy canola from Prinoth

.Oh and it is currently snowing again in CB I suspect it's DUMPING up @ Irwin

MtDoo you and Turbo stay home until the AV danger lowers a bit alright!

I don't want a call at Zero dark thirty from greg saying we got to go find you two.

And if you do go take your avy gear, at least then one of you will have a becon in the cat so we can find ya :face-icon-small-blu

LOL! Greg was going to go out today, but bailed due to lack of visibility. I think he fueled up the cat thought. I'm in Denver for a few days, but will probably go out with Turbo Thurs or so.

BTW - we do need to get the SPOT, or SAT Phone asap - Greg/Troy/and I went to hunt down Turbo yesterday beause he didn't return till mid-day, and he wasn't lost - just decided to exhaust the new 60gal aux tank. That was a scare!

Ya we need one, I will call phil now

better yet we need to rain in turbo and stick to the grooming schedule

NO MORE FREE TOWS EITHER

STILL SNOWING AS OF 7PM

Yeah - I think he pumped the for $500 but they only had $300 with them. I told him to only tow them 2/3 of the way out! ;-)

Turbo is doing good - the trails are in the best shape they've been in in years.
He is a mad man, though!

BTW - it's snowing in Denver, roads down here were slick as snot.

It was snowing this morning when I came into Crested Butted. A trace here could equal at least a foot in Irwin. It's also cold as balls today boys n girls wear your knickers :beer;

Weather Forecast

Today:
Light snow this afternoon with T-2" expected. Increasing winds from the northwest 10-20 mph and highs in the 20's in CB and teens in Gunny.

Tonight:

Cloudy and cold with another T-2" possible. Winds from the northwest 10-20 mph gusting into the 30's at higher elevations and lows in the single digits.

Tomorrow:
Snow tapering off in the morning and clearing through the day. Winds from the northwest 10-20 mph and highs in the 20's.

Weather Synopsis

Strong winds from the northwest yesterday cleared things out quicker then expected. The next storm system is dropping down from the north early this morning, bringing snow to the northern mountains. We will see very light accumulations today, with the chance for a stronger pulse of snow tonight. We are on the very southern edge of this storm, so don't expect much.
In the Backcountry

We saw little in the way of snow accumulations yesterday, but the winds picked up and moved a lot of snow. The snowpack appears o be settling in well due to the warm temperatures and the high moisture content of the storm. We are still concerned with some storm layers showing failures in snowpack tests, and winds yesterday will have formed fresh slabs on leeward and cross loaded slopes.
Danger Rating and Travel Advisory
Extra Caution

The danger is CONSIDERABLE near and above treeline on north, east and south aspects. The danger is MODERATE below treeline and on westerly slopes
Primary Avalanche Concern

Newly formed wind slabs may be prone to avalanching today, especially at higher elevations. Due to the intensity of the wind, expect start zones to be loaded further down the slope than you might think.

Travel above treeline today will require good terrain selection and observation skills. Localized winds could have loaded slopes in different fashions. Watch for cross loaded areas in smaller terrain features.

How is the snow setting up in Robinson??? Is it bonding??? We are thinking of coming up this weekend and I need to decide which sled to bring. If the snow is still "iffy" I will not tempt myself with the turbo.

Sam

Sam - base has strengthened, still a big sugar layer near the ground, ~3 feet of new fallen on top of that mess.

MD.

So I guess the turbo stays in the stable. I told myself that if there was any question, or anyone expressed concern regarding the snows stability, I would leave the turbo home.

Thanks for the snow reports. It is nice having the avy conditions, but you and I know conditions can be different from one basin to the next.

Again, thanks.

Sam

Today was rockin'! Yet another epic day, 1'-3'+:D. Dumping at Irwin, somewhat windy, flat light. We stayed in the trees except for some boondocking at the base of Ruby. Which was fairly wind loaded and really poor visibility. wooohooo

yesterday

We went out yesterday, made our way to the irwin cliff bands turned around and went out past kebler i believe, snow was great, good base and nice fluff to get around in the trees, We made a fire and took a nap out there haha, that driving through the night caught up with us..

Got stuck, rolled sled over like usual to get out, the thing flooded and we tried everything -it just wouldn't start. We were tired and ready to relax so we left it out there haha. Headed back out this mornin to fire it up.

If anyone sees us rippin around come say hi - look for FreeRide Films stuff or 2 guys on ski doos, i'm all orange

We had sun most of the day today, and some scattered clouds - it stayed cold all day single digits to low teens. There were a few large clouds up around Kebler pass/Scarp's Ridge, and some of the other surrounding valleys. Wind was gusting up high, as you could see the snow coming off of the peaks.

We have a 3-Club ride this weekend that GunniApexRider posted about, and it's open invite if you would like to come out and have some good grub, meet folks and ride some of the fresh pow! Food will be at the "Y" - intersection of Ohio Pass and Kebler Pass. Just point your nose in that direction and pin it!

Ave and Conditions are available at: www.cbavalanchecenter.org and I'll update this thread on Friday.

L8R!

MtnDoo

Rp & Zach- the YamiHOG sleeps, whilst the Doo's wait to be flogged!

locals

Had some great riding today, found my sled right away, thing started on second pull and ran great all day...

Locals... we rode Kebler pass road i believe about uhh... 12-15 miles out where there was a "lost lake" sign, right after that took a Left into the tress and followed someones tracks from yesterday about 2 miles back into a great area i wont say much because maybe this is a secret spot? amazing area, no tracks fresh powder over the hood, found a few jumps and lots of open riding areas in the trees, seen one spot where an avy came down (my guess is yesterday) but otherwise everything was stable.

Met a guy on a snowhawk today also, he was staying up in irwin, We didn't realize so many people stay up there in the winter..

Was sunny all day where we were, Perfect day :) ate pizza at the brick oven pizzera and had some great import beers

FreeRide Films - sounds great!
Just another day at the office.
Weekdays rock. ;-)

You can actually head up in at Horse Ranch Park, and skirt the base of the Anthracites all the way over to Lost Lake - endless pow, parks, trees, climbs, etc! Great stuff, but as far as the secret stashes - you're not even close.

;-)
