Help me decide 141 2.25 vs 153 2.6

Ok here's my situation. Live in Iowa right now, will make 1 or 2 trips west to Tog next winter with my 2011 Crossfire 8. Will switch everything back to stock to trail ride in WI and around Ia. My plan is to transfer to the U of Wyo in Laramie for the 2014-2015 school year. I'm new to the mtn riding scene, only been out there once, so not very good by any means, but am hooked and look to really improve once I move to Laramie. Don't really have a riding style yet, but can see becoming a tree rider - jumper I suppose. Thus being said, do you recommend:

#1 141 2.25 power claw and be done with it.
#2 Stretch to 153 with rails or rail extensions and a 2.25 power claw
#3 Stretch to 153 and a 2.6 power claw

A little insight to your thoughts would be awesome, have been going back and forth for months on what to do...

A little background, Weight 150lbs. Was out with a 2008 Crossfire 6 with a 136 x 2 old challenger last year and was "that guy" who was always stuck. I'd bet over 25 times over 2 days of riding... Don't want to be "that guy" again...
Thanks!

I just changed mine from 141x2.25PC to a 153x2.25PC with 153 rails. Before I did the rails I used rail extensions to get it to 153. Extensions (which I have if your interested) and a 2.25 PC would be your cheapest I would think.

The way I have it figured up, 141 used power claw (if possible to find) = $500
153 used Rails, don't really want extensions for long term use after I move to Wyo, =$200 Used 2.25 track = $350 or so. So about the same cost wise. 2.6 more $ but way more track too. What made you decide to go from 141 to 153?

My m7 did great playing in terrain(141 powerclaw) the only issue i had was i had to be careful which way i was pointing when parked and it would not always climb the ultra steep hills with 3+ft of fresh snow without a little effort. Im sure your sled would be even better with more torque and power.

I've ridden 141's in the mountains for a few years now, and love it. I recently went to a 146 and am very happy with how much it feels like a 141 with more traction (it's a 2.5)... whereas a 153 has a notably different feel, and eliminates some of the fun factor for me. I'd at least give a shot to running a 141.

Keep in mind that you can always switch later, someone WILL want your 141 PC... it's a great track.

If you step up to a 153, don't bother with a 2.25 imo... the 2.5 & 2,6 tracks are amazing, such a step above that it's worth the extra investment imo. the 2.5 CE is a pretty unreal track, hard to go wrong with that one.

Another option, and this is what I would do, simply because moving to a 2.5 track is worth the hassle... get a big wheel kit, and buy a 146 2.5 track. IMO this length is the best of both worlds... the fun of a 141, but more practical like a 153.

I ran an 06 Crossfire 7 with a 136" x 2" one year. A year later had an 09' with a 141" PC, major difference. With the extra power of the HO 800 in your 2011 a 141" will do great and wont even compare to the 08 cf 6 you had. We all run 141's in our group and have never had any problems going anywhere other than long steep climbs which we don't do much of. I just picked up a 153" PC and complete 153 skid so I can swap back and forth between MN and out west. If I hadn't found a deal on the package I would have had no issue running the 141" again next year. I would go with the 141" and if you end up moving out there, buy an M that is already setup as you will be mountain riding 100% of the time. I have a used 141" in perfect shape for sale if interested.

I wanted more track than the 144 I was riding this year in the snowies. 153 2.6 would be great most of the year.
If you need a riding group hit me up, I'm not great by any means, but I ride with a couple guys that are pretty darn good.

Thanks

You guys have made some really good points. The "fun" part of me says to try te 141 pc, but the realistic side of me is telling me that I need the exta length and lug of a 2.6 to make up for my lack of riding skill right now. BCIL something I thought of is your 146 is 16 wide, giving it way more floatation then a 141 15 right?

Mine is on my XM yeah, but you can put a 146 x 2.5 15 on that sled pretty easily.

AJWYO... you say you wanted more than a 144, but which track? The track itself is a HUGE factor. The PC does really well in the shorter lengths compared to a lot of other tracks. I've ridden a few assaults both with the competition track (GARBAGE) and with the regular powder track & neither did as well as my 141... track choice itself is huge. The 2.5 is a sick track, if 146 is the shortest they go with that track... that's what I'd run.

Rider skill will catch up quicker with the shorter track btw ;)
