I looked in the Motorola website but couldn’t find an answer, so I’m guessing not, but does it do breadcrumb tracking like the SPOT does? Too bad if it doesn’t!

I use SPOT and an old Garmin GPS MAP 62. I haven't completely bought into carrying my phone everywhere, or even that something more than a flip phone is needed, but I am getting closer to seeing it as a tool to carry. I did go to a BT Tech GMRS PRO and might carry my phone and leave the radio in my pack. This new communicator may be the tipping point to carry my phone.

What I heard was the 911 service is the same as SPOT. For the ground link to the local 911, I expect it to be well vetted by SPOT. I will trust it. (The add on service raises some questions. See Avalanche Safety topic, thread Garmin inReach SOS: What REALLY Happens (And What Might Not))

There is no breadcrumb (per Christopher, its coming) BUT you can location share with an icon option adding it to your check in message. This would seem to be a custom message so it is charged. There isn't a mention I found about pre recorded check-ins automatically carrying location.

For your own use, phone based map apps generally breadcrumb. Is that shareable on, say, CalTopo or CoTrex? I don't use SPOT breadcrumbs. If someone needs to locate me, they will have to figure out how to get themselves to last point of contact. If I remember to check in thru the day, there are hints.

I did not hear that a 911 message goes to your check-in list. it does on SPOT. I would think your check-in list would like to know you had to hit 911.

I am stuck with SPOT for the year but expect to change over price issues. In the meantime, I will encourage family members who carry their phone any way to look hard at this.
