Phazer seems a good choice to me, they are certainly proven.
Good luck with your project, can be very rewarding.
here is a pic of mine, all I can say is I wish I hadn't started with a Phazer tunnel, too heavy. Dry weight 360lb

I have several Polaris 550 motors, built by Fuji in Trail RMKs. I use them as spare sleds around my cabin for friends. A couple have over 5k miles and I've never opened the motors up. They make decent power too. I think the cat 570 motors are decent too. Have fun.

ski-doo 503 big fan they called them, yep the best fan out there hands down twin carbs on the right ones you could get twin pipes and electonic ignition.phazers are very well proven and are the new gen of yamaha fans good power and reliable without all the old weight.550 polaris thumbs down they lack the proper nickle coating on the cylinders and you know what that means-my buddy and his wife both had them fail at the same milage-has well has a few other people i know.always around 4500 miles-i heard there is alot of upgrades out there for them though.

I have two polaris 2001 550 fans with motor work to them. Both have close to 11,000 miles on original cranks and pistons..... 3- 2003 550 fans, anywhere from 9,000 - 10,000 miles.... Just gas and oil for them too...
I heard that the 2005 and newer 550's had some motor issues, but I dont recall exactly what.

I agree on the poo 550 being pretty stout...and one other thing to consider is the availability of electronic reverse on this motor. Considering that you are likely emphasizing wt and the 'perc' adds only ounces, it might be worth adding to the pros and cons column...

have fun with the project!
