That sounds odd. I use microsoft security essentials. It is free and does everything I need it to do. Make sure you uninstall all old anti-virus programs if you are not using them.

So I did end up throwing 8gb od RAM in and that did help a lot. But it still freezes occasioanlly. IS that possibly brought on by the processer?

Is that something that I can just purchase and install, or is it more complicated than that?

Is your CPU fan still running ??
Overheating is a common cause for CPU failure, and the little CPU fans have a limited lifetime on them.

Yes, and I also have the laptop sitting on one of those cooling pads, with a fan also.
