I had to start it!

Now that the 800R E-Tec is out can we Turbo this thing. I know there where other post's about this topic... but now the race is on. This is one of the most anticipated engines ever with Ski-doo mainly because the consumer believes it's Ski-doo's ticket to a reliable 800 Turbo, but can it be. It seems the E-Tec system is beyond most of our pay grades, but will we see it?

Just thought I would start the post because I know there is going to be a lot of heat in one of you guys getting this engine with a hair dryer.

Cheers
Shawn

wish in one hand ,, sheet in the other, ***NOTE which one fills up first..

now you know how it will perform in the field..poor choice due to the EPA driven design of the system.Very costly to convert carrectly.
Can it work ? yes
will it be """general owner friendly and dependable"",, we will see......

its like turboing a toyota prius,, WHY THE **** WOULD YOU ???

DOO already has an engine built for a turbo that will be reliable, powerfull clean and last a long time under boost........ but its not an 800 2stroke.

Or maybe it is?????? couples guys in Valcourt did 2 600ETEC turbo that runs flawllessly. They're with the evinrude dept. in the R&D building so I'm guessing;) maybe they are working on the same bases but with the big block

but now the race is on.

Who is racing?

We were talking with skidoo the other day and they said that they built this motor for specific reasons. One was to make a reliable low emission 2 stroke and the other was to Stop Warranty issues that are eating them from the back side. The motor and compenets was made to throw stumbling blocks in the way of us HP hounds. That does not sound very fun to me. But we have to find a way.

If this is the wave of the future than we better mold to it. Maybe the 600 is the only sled that can be turboed? because the injectors are made to produce approx 180hp and that is close to the hp that a 600 turbo puts out. But when you take a 800 and put 180 hp Voice coil accuated 60 volt injectors in it you have to over come the problems of making 210-220 hp. That is a big gap to build a bridge over. Can it be done? sure it can and it will be.

It would just be nice if skidoo would help us out like artic cat has helped the other guys.

Maybe they forgot that a growing aftermarket for a particular brand or model sells sleds.... its motorsports... people like to modify them. Look at the Ford Mustang.... do you think that would have been such a hit if guys couldn't wrench on them to the extent they do?

If they where smart with all the electronics they would have a stock and aftermarket electrical setting. Basically in stock form the engine would not accept mods.... but the moment you want to mod it you would have to purchase a brp chip or something that would permanently default the electrical sytem to a "new stock" setting. With the new stock setting you could mod the electronics do what ever you dreamed to the sled, but it would always show "new stock" to the computer voiding the warranty. It would make both of us happy... we could mod they could save money on warranty claims.

just an idea :)

I think some of you don't realize its not a software problem or software tunable for that matter..
Its hard parts, porttimings, head shapes and combustion chamber design.
Hammer injectors, low volume high pressure design,,etc.
BRP is quite happy that they will beat emmissions, get mileage up and not burn down ..
These are econoboxs.

Add two std injecotrs to the charge box, a standalone driver for them and your turboed,, not E tech turboed, just turboed..as you can only get AROUND the current driver and its abilites,, let it see that your changing the operating parameters and it will slap you back into limp,,,, no viagra to ease that pain....

the boys in valcourt have covered their arses well..boosting these will be expensive to build, and to run,, it will be expensive to get a new longblock from brp.

big challenge with even bigger hurdles,,

I saw Jason Cranes Boondocker turboed E-Tec 600 in the tech inspection section at the Jackson hill climb last year. So I know they have been working on stuff for the E-Tec's.

I talked to Jared Sessions the other week in Montana about the etec turbos, he said they have a couple 600's for R&D and they are getting close. Lets hope! they also said Skidoo was finally starting to help them out a bit with some info. Thats all I got to ask. I have faith, if they can get them running like the poo's and cats reliability and ease of use wise DOO will be ahead in the aftermarket game.
