Has anyone else measured them lately?
I had a customer call that measured his belt because he was getting a wide belt to sheave measurement.
1.406”. Hmmmm.
I called a friend of mine and had him measure 3 belts.
1.405”/1.410”/1.409”
I stopped and picked up 3 belts today.
1.405”/1.413”/1.422”.
I haven’t seen them at 1.47” but measured them in the past at 1.437”.
Wonder what’s going on.BCA53531-A7AE-4BA8-A994-A923F32CCBAC.jpeg

That certainly would mess some stuff up if they are assembling primarys for 1.47.
My belt off my new sled that has been moved twice is 1.412. And other new one is 1.422

I bet if you measure the OA circumference they will vary 1/8....not sure if they ever cut 2 belt the same...we set cleanse at .020 just inn case of a wider belt...

Without a concern for a wider belt what would you set it at? I shoot for .020”. Current sled ended up .025 to get sheeves to align per it’s original balance

I forget #’s and I’ll check later but there was a big difference between my new belt and the one that had 200 miles on it when I bought the sled. I just figured it was wear. Maybe not??

This confirms we need to check belt width and belt to sheave measurements for optimum performance.
Even with the OEM belt manufacture.
This may explain some of the creep we are hearing about. Along with belt to sheave measurements up to .120” from the factory.

Are other manufacturers' belts more consistent width and length than Polaris'?

Are these projected width measurements, or straight width between flats of the top teeth?

New 3211216 I just measured (purchased last season) comes in at 1.460 projected (1.418 flat to flat).

We are now seeing them at 1.400”- 1.438”
Check your belt to sheave with each belt replaced, and take a caliper with you when you buy a new belt.

Like zaasman said is this projected or actual? And how are you measuring so we aren’t comparing my apple to your orange.

Actual measurement.
Measuring the top, widest spot, as spec’d in the manual.

Are the Gates any better? I haven't check my stock belts. They both have been run one for spare and the main belt. Not that it means much and I haven't paid a lot of attention to this but it has seemed like I have had to adjust B/D more on this belt. Maybe nothing or the way I was riding?

Gates has changed the dimensions of their 45R4553 and have dropped the belt and replaced it with another stock number. I haven’t tested the new Gates replacement.

In the utv high hp world the gboost rs belt is amazing, good clutch traction like factory compound but MUCH stronger. Give you an idea, my can am x3 will make over 500hp turned up, with the oem can am belt I can get a few pulls on a new broke in oem belt before it just snaps. Belt is cool to the touch but it just can't take the load from my clutching. The gboost rs belt? I can get several weekends of riding and play racing. I have never broke one. Insane technology. I believe they make one for the rmk.

I think Gates is changing some things around, but it's confusing. Hopefully not a bad sign. I don't see anything discontinued, between the G-force basic belt, mid-performance C12, and newer Redline (R), but there's no reference to the C12 in the powersports belt brochure. There's also no guidance specific to snowmobiles. You can still find the C12 - my choice - on Gates' website (looks like they may be reworking stock numbers) and in stock. I'd still suggest that for NA. I've heard mostly good reports on the R, except it tends to glaze the clutches more. I don't need the added power/heat capacity and been happy with the C12s, so I've never tried it. I haven't scuffed my clutches in a long time, and they look (and work) great. The R is probably a good choice if you need it and are willing to scotch-brite the clutches occasionally. The 47C/R is a wider belt and might be a good drop-in on a sled with way too much side clearance, but it's kind of a guess because the top width isn't apples-to-apples between Gates and Polaris belts. The 47C/R is officially 1.469", but I think is effectively even wider because the Polaris belt is a little taller. Anyway, I'm a little uncertain of what Gates is doing, but assuming they don't eliminate or water down the existing choices, they're still a great choice.

Now I’m confused.
The manual says projected width, describes projected width but shows actual width in the diagram.

I’ve never measured a belt as pictured and seen anything remotely close to 1.47. If measured as instructed to obtain projected width it’s much closer than described up thread.

Are you measuring actual width to show the variability and that is all?
