We are off to a great start. It turned cold a few days ago and it’s looking like winter here at the cabins. We got about 6 inches of very wet snow here in the valley overnight. This wet storm should be adding a good bit up high. I’ll try to keep up on the reports again this year. Hope it’s a big one!!

We picked up about 6" in the last 48 hours here at the cabins. There is a little over a foot on the level in the valley. Willow creek snotel is about 3 feet. Blind Bull and Spring Creek divide, south of Afton. closer to 2 feet. Targhee and Jackson Hole ski resort both picked up a foot in the last 24 hours. More snow in the forecast!!

December 6, 2022 Alpine, WY Snow Report Rockin M Ranch
This is the best start of a winter that I have seen in several years. We have as much snow now as we typically see around New Years. I plowed another 6-8" yesterday here in the valley from over the weekend and another 1-2" since. We have about 20" on the level here at the cabins. Most of the snotel sites passed 40" over the weekend. Snowpack in Western Wyoming is ranging from 125-175%. Sure looks like we are on our way to a great snow year.

Awesome! Thanks so much for posting updates- it really helps those of us who fly in for trips. This will be year 4! Planning a spring ride in March this year!

Quick question since you know the area so well. From Murphy lake area heading south (east side of N Star Peaks), can you drop down the whole way to White Creek where it meets Greys River? If so is that a good ride?

I really like sqaw into Stewart area, and trying to link in some new points this year.

Thanks again for posting!!!

My experience with White Creek is riding the top bowls coming from North Strawberry. I would think you could get there from the North ridgeline heading South. In general you don't hear of many people riding the White Creek area due to it being very steep and timbered all the way down to the Greys River. Then you have one river bridge that you would have to make sure you come out in the right canyon. Not a ride I would try. I guess anything is possible.

December 31st, 2022 Happy New Year!!
We had a couple day warm spell and rain right after Christmas. Sucked for a couple days, Just got 8-12" of fairly wet snow in the Valley. Looks like 12-18" in the mountains from the Snotels. Willow Creek now 60". Just what we needed. We also now have a good base underneath.

Good reports from the salt river range over the weekend. Snow seemed stable and plenty of powder to be found. Western Wyoming snowpack at 116%. Currently snowing here at the Rockin' M. Couple inches so far with 6+ in the forecast for the valley. Avalanche report is back down to moderate. We are going to have weak layers up high in the wind loaded areas for most of this winter. Temps have been cool enough that the snow continues to stay soft and riding at all elevations has been great.

From BTNF avalanche center:
Recent snow and wind combined with buried weak layers make human triggered avalanches possible in the middle and upper elevations. These buried weak layers have a sporadic distribution making them difficult to predict. Take a cautious approach to manage this uncertainty and avoid areas with evidence of wind loading such as drifts and stiffened surfaces.

January 21, 2023 Alpine Wyoming Snow Conditions
We picked up 4-5" this last week in the valley. Snowpack at 108%. Temps have been cool and the snow has stayed soft. I rode Tuesday in Idaho (west of Alpine) and Friday in the Bedford area. Found many areas with no tracks. Snow is still soft down low and pretty good powder can still be found over 7000'. Plenty of deeper powder to be found in the treed areas. We are all aware of a possible unstable layer at the higher elevations from the November snows yet, I would say there is very little evidence of many large avalanches anywhere we rode. Snow appears to be fairly stable and the coverage is better than I have seen in a few years. Great time to get out. We still have many cabins available for February. Give us a call at 307-654-2288 or check us out at rockinmranchwyoming.com Please post your pictures of your riding in the Alpine Area! IMG_4942.jpgIMG_4950.jpgIMG_4950.jpgIMG_4951.jpg

Had the pleasure of staying at rockin m ranch last week on our trip to alpine. Our group can’t say enough good things about the ranch. The cabins are awesome tons of space nice big bar height table to hang out around. Full kitchen, hot tubs, super clean and Plenty of parking for trucks and trailer and we were even lucky enough to have Rob come ride with us a few days. Had a hard time leaving and can’t wait to go back.

Wow looks awesome! Rob touring with your is the icing on the cake. My trips are getting longer each year which makes his cabins more smart to book. Booked my past recent quick trips at the local hotel/bar which has worked, but the setup you described is ideal. Can you ride from the cabins to the main trail head or do you have to trailer??

We picked up a 4 inches of fluff here at the Rockin' M a few days ago. The last 24 hours we have picked up a solid 12" plus here at the cabins and still snowing. Good moisture content. Jackson hole resort is reporting 15" so far. Swan Valley is reportong 14". Looks like it clears out Sunday and turns cold for Monday and Tuesday. Should keep the snow fresh for awhile. Great week to ride.

We have great riding to the west on the Idaho side. Private access adjacent to our property. You will be off trail in less than 5 minutes. Alpine is 4 miles by sled. Some ride, some trailer.

Can a person pull a 7’ by 29’ enclosed trailer from Jackson down to Alpine? I was told that it wasn’t possible. I was pondering riding a few days around Togwotee and then heading down to Alpine is why I ask.

Not a problem between Jackson and Alpine towing a large trailer.

Agree that a big trailer is fine. In my experience they do an EXCELLENT job in keeping the lot at the trail head cleared wide open for big rigs.

Errrrr, I mean it’s terrible. The riding is terrible. The people are mean. No good riding can be found. Don’t bother going…. Lol—— ahhh, Guess the secret is out. Alpine is a snowmobile paradise!!!!

Have fun and stay safe. Have some friends there now and they say it’s epic!

If you make the trek, please post your experience!!!

Last week was glorious, especially Friday's 2 feet of over-the-hood snow. I hate how busy Star Valley has become, but at least I still have my honey holes. Here's a cool perspective pic from that trip - find the tiny snowmobiler. Location: I ain't sayin'
