Fordman, you live in Wa, that says it all for me. Great place, but you probably ride on average 5000 feet lower than us & have much stiffer snow. Why do you bother with the t-apex then? What a waste, they should get rid of those things. I'd rather ride my 550 fan.

Saying that a sled isn't worth keeping around is a stupid statement.

I would NEVER ride another M8, even modded all the way they're not what would do it for me around here, without a turbo it's a useless sled, they should discontinue it.

When I'm riding at 10k...outside of Washington, I just brought the T-Apex. No need to waste time on an M1000.

I don't care what you all say... It's still a pig.

The 1000 motor is great for running trails or lakes but in the woods the M 8 walks all over it. And now with the new motor it just doesn't make any sense. Notice how nothing was done to the M1000 for 2010.... why is that???? Because it's on the way out.

If you just pound the hill all day long then you've got me there...but don't you get bored with that?

X2.

SHEEYATT, we do more than point it up straight climbs up here above 10k bud!!:D

My shop guy has a 406 lb M1000 153, I have a 435lb cf1000 141, without spending very much $$ at all, bring on the apex, or the m8's for that matter.
Point is you can pull weight very easy on the 1000 & it feels as light or better than an M8 (oh yeah with more power).

It all depends on what you want out of a sled. I want power & maneuverability out of the same sled, I got it.

Short tracks wouldn't work where we ride.... You need all 162 inches...and then some.

Backcountry, I'd be very interested to know what was done to get those thou's down to 406 and 435 lbs.... If I could do that I'd probably stop thinking about getting an 8 just go with the Big Gun. Whats the trick???

No takers so i must be right....

takers on what!?

My 1000 rips and is as light or within a few lbs of your M7 and will DEFINITELY out climb, out boondock, and out tree ride your M7. And its a 153" and i ride right in your backyard.

My only complaint with this sled is its appetite for belts, though i seem to be getting a handle on that issue lately.

I've done some good mods to this sled and now love riding it more than ever... :D

A guy I started riding with last year had an m7 that he said would beat m8's m1000 all day and what was the point of getting a new sled, he does weigh 155lbs and the sled rips. But that day I handed him his own A$$ on my 07 m1000, the heaviest of them all. then I let him ride it and he highmark my highest mark by 60+ feet. Must be nice to weigh 60lbs lighter than the competition. This year he bought a m1000. all 162's. the 153 is a fun sled but there is a considerable climbing diff in cooke city not as much of a diff in WA.

gotta leave for work, I'll get a list together asap, but just read any of the lightweight threads, it's the same crap every time
intake, insulation, lights, skid work-wheels & bushings (yeah, a set of hifax only lasts me 1000 miles or so, $25)a arms, engine ti, steering post, brake rotor, boss, there's some other stuff I'm forgetting. oh yeah 1/2 full gas tank... oil delete...

keep in mind my 1000 is a 141, that also saves a few lbs.

I know of a m7 to cutler 1000 with an itty bitty 141 that will surprise the hell out of you and goes just fine in 3-4 feet of pow.
A properly set up, light sled with a good pow track will do just fine in the steep and deep.

I'm going to have to call BS on anyone that thinks a 141 1000 can go everywhere a 162 M8 or M7 for that matter can go in 3-4 feet of powder.....

Look, if it's compact snow then no sh!t.... 3-4 feet of powder??? You can't go slicing through the trees....ravines.... or anything that requires quick changes in direction. If you just bang up an down a hill to see who has the biggest d!ck then that is not my kind of riding. Anyone with two years of riding under their belt can do that...

What are we talking about again??
