Mountain Cat 900 Front Shocks...

The King Cat I bought just keeps on needing more and more parts. Now it looks like it'll need one front shock; my attitude is if I'm replacing one, I'll replace both to be sure they're both the same etc etc. I happen to have a like-new set of M8 front shocks that I've had in a tub for 15 years. Any chance those would fit? Not sure what the eye-to-eye length is or anything else. I'm guessing the springs might be a bit softer, but I could reuse the springs off the old shocks I guess.

Thoughts?

According to the OEM part number description the OEM float shocks on a 2005 king cat are 15.8" long. The M-series front shocks are about 17.5" so a pretty significant difference. I would just get the ones you have rebuilt.

Wow, bigger difference than I thought. Where's a good place to get them rebuilt?

You could look into doing an AGLT style mod by using the wide arms off a zr and those shocks.
Below is the 2001 800 Le I had that i put 18" zr 440 shocks on, (LE had the zr arms) was a pinch to get them in but the 17.5" may go in without issue, though your camber will be off it really gets the front end out of the snow.

Following up.. I found another place that I may want to use to rebuild these. He wants to know what brand they are. He suspects "Works" but I have no idea and is concerned about getting parts for them. Anybody have any more details I can give him?

Try suspension pros.

I have talked to them before about custom valving on some old school mod shocks (fox, ACT works etc) and they seemed more than happy to work with me on them. I havent used them yet but I am planning on doing so soon by sending them many different sets of shocks.

Theyre pretty active on FB if you have it look em up.

Any shock off a 36" sled will work. Those ACT shocks weren't the best even tho they were manufactured by Fox for Cat. Cheap quality internals. I did love those Ti springs tho.
