Well, I never was really active on here at all minus looking at a few how to's and what not. However im making the move out west and i figured i should start to post here more often.

Anyhow, im currently looking at a 2005 m7 141 w/pc track. It has 4500 miles, the dd has been serviced at least every 500 miles, and is in overall great shape minus a few little cracks in the hood. Ill be moving out to denver, at the end of august so ill definetly be riding in the mountains. So pretty much im asking is there anything i should look for as far as issues in it? and also is a 141 gonna be too short? This will be my first time out riding in the mountains, as ive been a flatlander my whole life.

thanks,
dakota

If you're looking for things to watch as far as maintenance things, the M7 is pretty darn solid. Many people have had the wiring going to the tail light rub thru causing problems (I haven't though on mine after all these years) by the gas tank, but I wouldn't worry about that until you do have a problem. If it doesn't already have it on, you should get the relocation brackets for the rear suspension arm. They will make a big difference on the way the rear skid performs. Other than that for maintenance things to look for, there are lots of threads on here about upgrades you can do that help quite a bit, just do a search.
As far as a 141" long enough, that is going to be your preference. I LOVE the 141" and don't ever want anything longer, but others will tell you it's too short and that longer is better. You'll have to decide what you like there. There are plenty of threads on here about that debate also :face-icon-small-sho

Well, im gonna try and pick it up for 2gs tommorrow. I guess ill see, I was gonna put money down, but i not seeing it in person its hard to do.

Heres a couple of pics, its super clean with only 2 cracks in the hood.

You stole that sled for $2100.

How many actual miles on it?

If it has over 2k I would think about pistons. I lost the exhaust skirt on one last year. Sure made for a bad day. Ruined a great day riding for the kids.

So something to think about.

Otherwise looks great.

X2.... I would buy every one of those I could find at that price. What track is on it?

Arctic Thunder: its got 4400 miles on it, and you would NEVER know it. Clean everywhere, not even a drop of oil in the engine bay. Started first pull and seems to run great, It might have gotten pistons a little while ago, however im not sure. New primary clutch 800 miles ago.

polarisforsnow: Its got a powerclaw track on it, hence why i jumped on it.

Im already thinking about mods, and i was wondering what are a good couple to do? Im gonna get a bar riser, as at 6' 1" the bars just arent tall enough. Im also used to riding a rev, so this is gonna be kinda weird. But how tall can i go without running into need extensions? I thought i read 3" was the tallest safe limit.

My m7 with jaws twins and a intake was a ripper! and on the 05 you dont need a fuel controller for those just unplug the grey wire by the ecu and keep good fuel in it. needed a tad of bottom end but up top that thing was a rocket. i had 4000 miles on it when i sold it on original pistons. also im going to make a suggestion here im 6ft and i lowered the bars 2in on mine. this is the big difference between a cat and a ski doo, go up for a doo go down for a cat. give it a few rides you get use to it. bend your knees more. the hrp skid relocation brackets are a must. send the shocks to gsr for a revalve to your weight. and ride the crap out of it. very reliable machine youll have a lot of fun.

I got an 05 M-7 for my wife last March and going from my Rev to the Cat now and then was fine, her M-7 actually layed over easier. Personaly I would need the bars up higher if I rode the M-7 all the time.

If you are going to put some money into it, the first thing I'd suggest is to get some side vent panels. Looking at the pics I noticed you don't have any. That was/is one of the worst things about the M's. The clutches don't get hardly any venting stock, so buy some or make your own to get some venting, the more the better. Definitely get the relocation brackets if you don't have them already. I also read (but no first hand experience to tell you for sure) that 3" more is the most you can go without having to get longer cables on the handlebars. You'll love the sled!! And yes, you STOLE it at $2100!! Now ride it like you stole it.

How would I make the vents for the sides? They look to be about 75$ on eBay, going to college I'm trying to save money. However I wanna ride. I'm also pretty sure it's got the skid relocation brackets.

I wasn't suggesting to build your own just because I don't think it is worth the time it would take to do, BUT, the way I'd do it if I were going to is get some aluminum sheet metal, cut it into the triangular shape to fit the outside of the panel, cut out most of the center of the triangle and buy some pet screen from home depot to wrap it in, cut out the plastic of the side panel and rivet the aluminum wrapped screen on the outside. I think it's more work than the money to just buy, but that's my opinion. You might want to check around though, I bought mine years ago from someone on here, I think named 2cool4you (or something close to that) and don't remember what I paid, but I don't remember paying $75. I might be wrong though, that was back in '05.

If you aren't totally sure about the relocation brackets for the rear suspension, take a quick picture, post it and we can tell you if you've got them already or not. The pictures you already posted don't show enough of it to see if they're on or not.
