1999 XC 700 - Spark Plug - RN2C, RN57YCC or ???

I puchased a 99 XC SP 700 a few weeks ago and the plugs that were in it were a set of BR8ES NGKs. I know that's not right so I put in a set of RN57YC Champions that I had as spares for my 2001 800 LE when I couldn't get any RN57YCC's.

I replaced the whipped primary and rebuilt the secondary. My set-up is 62, almond/blue, R11 and silver/blue#2. It all works good, shift is at 8100 - 8200 and it is running a touch rich.

The plug is telling me the heat range is a bit on the hot side so I did a little research and discovered that it wasn't until 2000 that Polaris changed to the RN57YCC and in order to accommodate this plug they changed the timing.

Is it ok to run the RN57YC or RN57YCC in the 99 with the stock CD or should I use the RN2C or perhaps a BR9ES or BR9ECS.

The RN57YCC is a real good plug in my 800LE and I'm even considering buying a 2000 CD so as to have the updated timing but if I recall the HP of the 2000/2001 700 went down with the CD change.

Did Polaris put out a bulletin for plugs in the 1999 700?

I believe the 57YCC is a projected tip version of the RN2C much like the BPR9es is a projected tip of the BR9es. If you have the chance, look at the center electrode and you will see it sticks out further.

This in essence advances your timing about 1 degree.


Putting the RN57YCC in a stock 800 Doo motor will add 2 HP on a dyno for example.
