07 dragon front cooler??

So I put a challenger extreme on my 07 dragon, a lot of post have said to remove the front radiator, I'm leary of removing it, but do like the idea of losing a few pounds and gaining clearance for the track. If I do it I'll use 08 163 thermostat and bottle. Any input on this would help.

the dragon models didnt come with front coolers just the basic rmks did from what i understand. thats how it work for the 09s and newer.

I hate to disagree with anyone but if I read this right he is asking about the front bulkhead heat exchanger and his 07 700 does have this.

To answer your question , yes you can use the Dragon 163 thermostat and you will also need to remove the pipe fitting in the back of the cyl head and put a pipe plug in it.

Ok, he is asking about two different things. A radiator and front cooler. Removing weight was done on the 900/755 by removing the radiator. Several aftermarket bumpers require that as well.

The front heat exchanger is in regards to the track clearance. Which is not a concern on the 07 D7.

I said he didn't have one - I was referring to the radiator.

Super Dave3.... On the 700's... Is there a pipe fitting threaded into the bottom of the head
or is there a hose barb cast onto the bottom of the head below the thermo for bypass...
OR is there a different head on the Dragon 700 163's in 2008? I never paid attention to this area..

The only photo I can find of somthing like this is from the Carbureted 600 HO in the 2008 Service manual.

The problem is that the online fiche doesnt show the 2008 Dragon 700 163" which does not run the front tunnel/bulkhead heat exchanger.

From what I remember, the 2008 Dragon 700 163" (not the 08 D-7 155") was the only 700 RMK that did not run the front tunnel/bulkhead heat exchanger.
... I wish I had a parts fiche pic of that....I wonder how Polairs blocked off the head outlet on that one?? Did they run a different head???

You will need to block off the front, lower hose barb on the coolant tank OR... for a cleaner look... install the Dragon 800 Coolant bottle.
#3 in the last dwg, part # 2520843, also about $20 US.

You will also need to install the plastic block off plate from a 2008 163" Dragon or the 2009/10 Dragon plate to fill in that space.
Item #14 in the last dwg below... Part number 5437050 About $20 US.

Either way, you need to run the Dragon thermostat with the bypass in it.

Here is a pic of a non bypass thermostat (left) compared to a bypass thermostat (right)

Here is a pic of the correct way to install the thermostat in a 600/700 HO small block head (different than the 800 CFi's)
If not installed correctly... the sled will be prone to overheating.

I think Mountainhorse is right. I forgot about the 163" not having the front exchanger. Polaris added the ice scratchers to compensate.

None-the-less, you don't have a front radiator.

I removed my bulkhead cooler when I installed the drop&roll kit on my 07D7 155. I'm running a 163" camoX, ported cyl. , 13.3 comp head, single pipe. Only had one heating issue, rode 3-5 miles on an icy trail( forgot to drop the ice scratchers:rolleyes:). Other than that, no problems. The drop&roll kit from Fastrax came with a plastic(polaris part) insert that went were the cooler went. I believe it keeps snow from building up there.

Sorry about the confusion, so did the 163's get rid of the front radiator since they have a longer tunnel cooler. I heard talk of people doing this, didn't realize some had another cooler up front.

Some of the older sleds had front radiators in the nose. In the later sleds they changed over to having the front tunnel coolers. I think the 163's didn't have them just to shed weight. I eliminated mine, just got the 163 coolant bottle and T stat.

Thanks for the pictures mountainhorse, so does my 700 need this or would I be alright removing it. I have never had a heating issue, but I run scratchers whenever I'm not playing in the new stuff. I like the idea of lightening the sled, but not if I'm going to create problems, thanks

Remember this is the first Dragon ever in 2007 , only came with a 700 and the longest track was a 155 and all had front coolers.
Thinking of a track change as well.:D

cmud - why do you want to remove the front heat exchanger (not to be confused with front radiator)? The track always cleared fine for me in 2700 miles. That sled does not have a front radiator, only the 900/755 sleds did.
