07 Crossfire 800 issues of concern??

Looking at getting my 18 year old son a newer machine for riding here in Newfoundland. I've been looking at a 07 Xfire 800 with around 5400 clicks. Wondering if there are any issues with this particular model. He's coming off a 121" Yammy 700SXR so I'm sure this vintage of 800 will have enough oats. Anybody have any info to share as it would certainly be appreciated... Thks

5400 miles or km? (assuming km since you're in canuckistan?)

at 5k miles I'd make a point of opening the motor, putting new pistons in (2 hrs & under $200 to do it... no biggie) and opening up the diamond drive changing fluid, and checking for wear. Also check both clutches.

All in all, good motor, not a monster, but very reliable.

i agree with backcountry. inspect the diamond drive once you buy it and a quick compression test is in order before buying. i have the 09 M8 with the same engine and i am very impressed with it. i am also in NFLD and if your looking to boost the power on that 07 800 i have a speedwerx pipe kit for it to really wake it up.

anyways these are great machines!

Thanks for the info. The seller, a dealer, is stating 5400 miles although I suspect it's kilometers as you were right to assume I am in Canada. They are also stating it has a 2" paddle so I'm not sure if that's a upgrade or stock for this machine/year. $4000 Cdn
Also looking at a 06 Xfire 700 with some mods:09 Fox style skid with adjustable reservoirs - front and rear, 09 bumper, V Force reeds, timing key, intake, geraed lower, boss seat, and 2" track. $5500 Cdn
Finally, I see an 09 Xcross 800 with low mileage for $7500 negotiable so it looks like its a great time to buy.

the 09 crossfire would be a sweet machine to get. i would stay away from the 06 700. sounds like its messed with and if you don't know what your doing you can really hurt your performance.

my $.02 take it for what its worth

i just took a look at the 09! i would stay away from that for that price! looks like it has had a hard life.

the 06 actually looks alot better but i would try and stick to a somewhat stock sled when buying 2nd hand. or a very well maintained sled with upgrades.

Why the flip flop Troyburt? First you suggest to pass on the modified machine and stick with the newer 09. You mentioned you had a look at the 09 800. How? Are you sure it's he same machine I mentioned which supposedly is in great shape. I haven't had a change to see it in person yet so can't be sure. I'm a little leery of the 06 as I was told it previously had a big bore kit installed with the top end being replaced recently.

like i said before i am also from newfoundland and i am thinking you are seeing these sleds on NL classifieds. so after you said what models and prices along with kms. i found sleds on there with the same description and figured that is what you were looking at.

just trying to help. you came on here asking for opinion's and thats what i gave you

No problem. Just wondering if you were doing as you said and if we were referring to the same machines. I thought the 09 from the west coast looked pretty good. Is this the same machine as you noted as looking like it had hard usage. Appreciate your help as the young guy s getting pretty pumped over getting a "new" machine as he wants to keep up with me and my M1000 on our west coast trips.
