So if you have a taller spindle which raises the front of the sled, but you don’t move the front of the skid down, aren’t you going to just put a lot more pressure on the skis?

Luckily for cat owners there is already a hole in the front suspension support on the inside of the tunnel. I drilled those out and tried this location for a couple hundred miles this year with the rear rear suspension mount in the lowest hole, it was ok but didn’t quite have the right feel it seemed so I have since gone back to the stock location in the front of the rear suspension. I’m interested to try that lower location again with these taller spindles.

Wish that thing wasn't so wide. Brings back nightmares of the pre 2016 spindles that just drug in the snow. I know there were other front end changes as well but those sleds were nearly unrideable for how I like to ride. The increased height definitely has me curious.

yakima, wa.
Should probably shim a wedge in the front if that spindle to keep the ski flat.
Don't want it to tip up like a pro and stop u... instantaneous ski brakes suck!

I was thinking the same thing.

Maybe some ski rubber trimming in the rear.

Did you measure how much these spindles lifted the front of your sled vs the stock mtn spindle?
I thought about trying to make some 2” (or so) extenders that bolt onto the bottom of the stock mtn spindle. Have a couple ideas.

Too bad someone doesn't already make a direct bolt on option ;)

Yea but that price tag is tough to swallow. $1k + is a lot for spindles. The race spindles are $141 ea. Just ordered a set to try on an alpha. Planning on revising a rubber or reprofile the foot a little to get the ski to sit flat. For less than $300 it’s an easy experiment I guess. The iceage are a superb piece but yea, that’s some cheddar.

Looks to me like the spindle, RIOT should be stood up more?

This sled would benefit massively by standing up the spindle 3* and moving the a arms forward 2".

the have to much caster as is. cat went from like 14* to 27* I think in 2016. 23-24* is ideal, IMO

Handles Awesome for Me for what I use it for, definitely more confident in the deeper and technical areas around here than before the changes and better than My 16 M8 141"with same 40" arms and mountain spindles.

not sure on width from side to side compared the other mountain spindles?

Yeah it's definitely a crossover setup and beefed up with Bomber rails, VA thicker tunnel section and bracing/bumper and misc..., the track is a 2.52 drvers and 144" 2" SBA track but trying to decide what 146" 2.5" to run?
Thanks.

The lift should be 1 1/16 inch, thats the difference between the two spindles, I didn't measure the sled before and after the spindles and lowering the rear skid more so at least an inch I would say or more actually because the shocks I'm using have the same collapsed length as 40" High Country shocks but are about and inch longer and will be taking 1/2" out of shocks soon.

Did you replace the upper A arm? Or did it bolt right up? Did you get a hold of one from the Riot or is it from the race department? Just wondering because the Riot is a different colour than the 2018 Mountain Cat.

Those arms are new stock 2018 high country arms, the spindle is from the 2019 sx race sled and looks to be the same as all the 2020 trail sleds and riot 1.3 and 1.6
The spindle will bolt up the same to the 36" Mountain arms.

Just a question I thought I’d throw out there. From the stock ride height of the alpha, how much would be reasonable to rise the sked? 1”, 2”, 3”? More?

Your gonna run into approach angle problems as well as constantly running the track against the anti stab wheels if you go too much with the rear skid. Also, the higher you go in the rear, the more stress you will put on the nose of the rail. Unless an aftermarket rail is made with a different nose profile, I’d say we are limited to somewhere in the 1.5-2” range max for the skid.
