Factory Rebuilt Engines?

My friend has a 600 E-Tec in his sled and over the weekend the motor lost power and became difficult to start. We initially thought it was bad gas but the dealer said there is no compression in one cylinder and a new motor should be considered. My question is, does Ski Doo have a rebuilt exchange program or some other type od exchage.

No compression in one cylinder is often a $200-600 fix... I'd hope there's more to it than that if they're suggesting a new motor.

The other MFG's reman cranks, but I've never heard of a full reman motor (not a big doo guy though, so there could be a program I've never seen)

No compression on one side, if there wasn't a catastrophic failure though, is a matter of a piston, and possibly a jug... easy stuff that most people could do in a garage with a little coaching & maybe a youtube vid or two!:face-icon-small-win

if it has a ton of miles, I'd think about doing both pistons, they're only about $150 each... but I'd suggest getting two ring pistons as replacements.

oh btw... if it really is just low comp in one side, and they suggested a new motor.

NEVER GO TO THAT DEALER/ MECHANIC EVER AGAIN.

Suggesting a $3k+ fix for a couple hundred buck problem is pretty disgusting.

Doo has a great exchange program. Most dealers are very aware of them. If the motor has many miles, then the iso flex in the main bearings will be dried up and it makes sense to just put a long block in it.

Have seen 2 '09 600 ETEC motors go down this season due to loose-missing Y-pipe bolts.

depending on damage and miles, might get away with just a cylinder and piston.
