Thankfully the Black Hills are off to a good start. I hope it continues, and the above forecast changes. We planed on being out now, but rescheduled to MLK weekend due to low snow before this first storm.

We are driving out Thursday night to ride Friday-Sunday. Looks very cold, maybe some short rides with a lot of stops to warm up.

We were hoping to ride this weekend too, the lack of snow for off trail and extremely cold temps has me thinking we should cancel....1704836338405.jpeg

We cancelled too. My son asked for the time off, but they scheduled him. With that and the forecast, we threw the towel in.

You didn't miss anything except maybe some frostbite by rescheduling.

Current Blind Park (about 6 miles south of trailshead) SNOTEL data so far this year:

Through December the snow was the worst it's ever been, finally into January it's starting to pick up a bit but it's still very low snow conditions. I was planning to finally get the sleds out this weekend to check out the trails, but the extreme cold stopped me.

Whatever happened to the days when the hills would get pounded with snow? We used to go out and have great riding all the time…..now they could buy a good year….
